As part of their drive to promote digital entrepreneurship as a means to stimulate local economies and help Filipinos build sustainable income, PLDT and Smart supported the Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD NCR)’s recent “Sustainable LiveliTalks: Masterclass” held in Pasay City.

A key component of the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), this particular masterclass featured PLDT and Smart’s award-winning eBizNovation program, which equips micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with practical knowledge on how to leverage social media platforms to grow their businesses and participate meaningfully in the digital economy.


“We believe that digital inclusion is key to uplifting communities and enabling MSMEs to thrive,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Engagement at PLDT and Smart. “Through programs like #eBizNovation, we aim to equip entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the digital space.”

A key highlight of the session was the story of Abbie Ricohermoso, owner of Josefina’s Homemade Food, who shared her journey from managing a small family eatery to building a thriving online business selling bottled Filipino dishes. With support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), PLDT and Smart, and in partnership with TikTok Shop, Ricohermoso expanded her market reach, created employment opportunities, and gained international recognition. Her growing business now supports more local employees, demonstrating the transformative power of digital tools in local entrepreneurship.


Ricohermoso’s story resonated with attendees, including Belinda Formanes, 64, a sari-sari store and candle business owner. “Miss Abbie Ricohermoso's talk really made an impact on me,” Formanes shared. “She showed how she started from her kitchen and grew her business online, even explaining the legal and technical steps. Her journey made me believe I can sell online too.”

To complement the e-commerce and social media marketing discussions, PLDT and Smart also conducted their #BeCyberSmart session, designed to help MSMEs protect their businesses from online scams and cyber threats. The session emphasized the importance of digital vigilance and responsible online practices.


Janred Mendoza, 33, member of DSWD-NCR SLP Association operating electric transport service, shared his key takeaway. “Be vigilant about links—whether from messaging apps, emails, or comment sections. Report suspicious content to telcos, platforms, or trusted authorities. These habits help track and shut down threats.”

Tame Impala (Kevin Parker) has released his fifth full-length album, Deadbeat via Columbia Records today. Tame Impala teased the release of Deadbeat with three advance singles, “Loser,” “End of Summer, and “Dracula” which broke into Billboard’s Hot 100 and saw an instant chart debut at AAA and Alternative - his biggest debuts yet. 

Today he shares a music video for the album opener “My Old Ways,” directed by Kristofski and featuring cinéma vérité footage the director took throughout the process of Parker making the record in various locations around the world.

On Deadbeat, Parker sculpts a collection of wickedly potent club-psych explorations as a vehicle for some of his most direct, brain-wormy songwriting to date. The album is deeply inspired by Australian bush doof culture and particularly the local scene centered around Margaret River in Western Australia in the 90’s, recasting Tame Impala as a kind of future primitive rave act in the process. “In the past 15 years, arguably no other rock musician has straddled multiple worlds quite as well as Parker,” says critic Grayson Haver Currin in his GQ Hype cover story. 

“Tame Impala began as a modernized psych-rock band with exploding-world drums and skyscraping hooks that made it clear Parker also loved pop, soul, and hip-hop. Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the official corporate social responsibility arm of Manila Water Company that operates and manages the 33-hectare La Mesa Ecopark (LME) in Quezon City, marked a crucial milestone in its ongoing commitment to sustainability and climate change mitigation by shifting to renewable energy. 

This initiative was made possible through the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), in partnership with Meralco. The move is a clear demonstration of the Company's core belief that delivering world-class, community-responsive services contributes directly to sustainable development and shared, long-term value.

Along with other facilities of Manila Water, the switching ceremony was recently held at the La Mesa Ecopark. The focus of this pioneering endeavor for LME is for it to be fully self-sustaining and environmentally friendly across all resources, most notably its energy supply.

"This advancement underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability, innovation, responsible energy use, and operational resilience," as shared by MWF Executive Director, Reginald Andal.  This move is also a pioneering achievement as the La Mesa Ecopark is now the first and largest ecological park to adapt to the Retail Aggregation Program. This program grants the facility the crucial flexibility to source its power supply directly from renewable energy providers
The project is highlighted not just as a one-time achievement, but as a clear demonstration of powerful synergies that strengthens Manila Water's position as a leader in the water sector. This shift also reinforces the mission for LME as an environmental hub that raises consciousness on watershed conservation, forest protection, and biodiversity preservation. 

LME is one of the last green frontiers of Metro Manila which serves as a crucial segment of the La Mesa Watershed, which provides water to more than 90 percent of East Zone customers of Metro Manila.

The ERC has recognized LME as a RAP Champion in acknowledgment of its pioneering initiatives.

According to the ERC, Manila Water set a precedent as the first company in the Philippines to adopt the RAP in February 2025 and has since inspired a wave of adoption across various sectors. As of August 2025, a total of 37 aggregated groups have joined RAP, spanning industries such as education, banking and finance, retail, telecommunications, and real estate.

“When we started with the omnibus rules as promulgated in September, the very first switch happened in around February. And since it’s start, from the 3 aggregated retail groups, it has grown to 70% annually to 37 aggregated groups in August. So ganun po kabilis. And across industries, very successful ang RAP,” said ERC Director for Market Operations Service Sharon Montaner.
