Air Cargo Lifts LBC revenues in 2017

LBC Express Holdings, Inc. recently disclosed to the SEC & PSE its audited financial statements for 2017, with notable results. Revenues of LBCEH increased 15% to PhP 10,020,116 billion in 2017 from PhP 8,695,403 billion in 2016. Gross profit (service revenues less cost of services) also increased to PhP 3,414,084,213 billion from PhP 3,104,889,533 billion in 2016. LBC’s operating company, LBC Express, Inc., likewise registered growth in Net Income after tax, increasing 7% in 2017 to PhP 984,921,653 million from PhP 920,249,493 in 2016.



Logistics revenues continue to contribute the lion share to the company’s coffers, with 86% contribution at PhP 8,981,212 billion, a 19% growth from the previous year. LBC Logistics revenue can be further segmented into its Retail and Corporate businesses, both having double-digit growth in 2017. Retail Logistics grew 16% to PhP 5,751,655,749 billion from PhP 4,964,000,749 in 2016; while Corporate Logistics increased 26% to PhP 3,229,513,847 from PhP 2,557,865,998 in 2016.



Air Cargo revenues grows 24%
The Philippine Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) released its H1 2017 report citing LBC Express, Inc. holding 34% market share of domestic airfreight cargo forwarding, with a total of 10,075 tonnes forwarded for the first half of the year alone. The company registered total 2017 revenues from Air Cargo alone, however, earned PhP 5,296,098 billion for the company, a 24% increase from the previous year’s PhP 4,269,670 billion.

Sea Cargo revenues have likewise increased, bringing in PhP 1,124,277 billion to the company’s revenues—a 12% increase from the previous year’s PhP 1,008,134 billion. For international inbound cargo, this translates to 5,432 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent) of incoming sea cargo from the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America in 2017—predominantly Balikbayan Boxes sent by Overseas Filipinos to their families in the Philippines. Total Sea Cargo TEUs for the company (International and Domestic) reached 8,449 in 2017, up 4% from 8,138 in 2016. Revenues from LBC’s Courier business also increased by 11% in 2017, to PhP 2,006,247 billion from PhP 1,803, 626 billion.

In the Philippines, 57 (net) new branches were opened across Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao-- bringing the total number of wholly-owned branches to 1,321 by end 2017. This branch expansion continues to provide volume growth while also extending the brand’s reach and footprint. Revenue from Philippines retail branches increased 12% in 2017, contributing a total of PhP 645 million to total revenues of the company.

In the pipeline for 2018, LBC aims to open 100 branches across the country, scattered between populous major cities and likewise going deeper into second- and third-class municipalities in various provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao.

LBC continues to innovate its overall branch experience for millions of customers by continuously making improvements and enable better efficiencies. LBC will continue to evaluate new products and technologies as they come to market and will prudently invest in software and devices to enhance the management and efficiency of its operations.

The company has also embarked on a Data-Driven Sales & Marketing program, initiated in the last two years and is well into its operations today. The program seeks to know & understand LBC customers better, and create more value for its millions of customers. Engaging promotions and personalized offers have since been initiated, and these are growing awareness for and retaining loyalty the brand and its services.

In the Corporate Logistics business unit, revenues likewise increased for all segments. Large enterprises, both local and international brands, utilize the services of LBC Business Solutions, and this business segment increased its revenues by 28% in 2017 to PhP 939,533,143 million from PhP 735,372,461 million in 2016. LBC Business Solutions likewise offers its services to Small- and Medium-Enterprises, and this contributed a 42% increase in revenues in 2017, with PhP 283,286,489 million up from PhP 199,586,139 million in 2016, largely driven by the continuous rise in e-commerce and online “social selling.”

The LBC guarantee for excellence and customer satisfaction is supported by its operational efficiencies, as indicated by its growing numbers also in manpower, fleet and equipment. In 2017, total number of delivery couriers increased to 2,189 from 1,776 in 2016, with an average 70 deliveries per day. As of end 2017, the Company had a fleet of 1,417 vehicles (including 825 motorcycles and 592 vans) and 1,518 handheld units utilized by delivery couriers for real-time updates and online reporting.

Herbalife Nutrition Healthy Breakfast Survey Reveals Consumers in thePhilippines Would Be Motivated To Eat Breakfast Daily If It Is More Convenient and Easy or Readily Accessible






Herbalife Nutrition released findings from its Asia Pacific Healthy Breakfast Survey, conducted in February this year with more than 5,500 respondents in 11 markets – including 500 from the Philippines.

Aimed at uncovering insights into the attitudes and habits of eating breakfast among consumers in the region, the survey revealed that the majority of respondents understand the importance of a healthy breakfast in promoting their well-being and in managing their weight, however, many of them have encountered obstacles to eating it daily, and would be encouraged to eat it more regularly if it was more convenient and accessible.  

Benefits of consuming breakfast
Based on the Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific Healthy Breakfast Survey, the majority (69 percent) of consumers in the Philippines consider breakfast extremely/very important, with 86 percent choosing it as the most important meal of the day. In comparison, only 11 percent opted for lunch and 2 percent for dinner.  When asked about the benefits of consuming a healthy breakfast, 99 percent said that eating breakfast “gives them energy in the morning” while 96 percent felt that “it contributes to their personal well-being”.

Looking at the breakfast habits of consumers in the Philippines, the survey found that 84 percent do indeed make it a priority to eat their first and most important meal of the day at home, with 67 percent doing so within one to two hours of waking. The rest would just grab their breakfast either at work (10 percent) or on the way to work (4 percent). Only 2 percent of the respondents do not eat breakfast.

What are the consumers in the Philippines eating for breakfast?
The survey also showed that although 41 percent of respondents consider protein as the predominant nutrient needed in their breakfast, carbohydrates in fact made up most of the actual breakfast nutrients in the consumption pattern of the respondents. Carbohydrates such as bread or toast and hot beverages top the list of breakfast foods regularly consumed.

Obstacles to a daily breakfast
While the survey indicated that a good majority are eating breakfast, it also found that many had encountered obstacles to eating it daily. The top three barriers are “lack of time” (44 percent), “don’t feel hungry in the morning” (30 percent) and “trying to maintain my weight” (18 percent).

To overcome these obstacles, 54 percent of the respondents said having “If my breakfast contributes to my health and well-being” and “If breakfast helps give me more energy” would help them eat breakfast daily, other motivation factors include making breakfast “readily accessible” (53 percent) or having something that is “more convenient and easy” (48 percent).

 “It is heartening to see that most Asia Pacific consumers are aware of the importance of eating breakfast. A healthy breakfast with balanced nutrition not only provides the much-needed nutrients for the day, but also has wide-ranging benefits in the long run, including supporting healthy metabolism, better brain health and improved weight management,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, Country Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines.


“However, the survey also revealed that many are still not consuming breakfast daily. One can easily overcome the obstacles by waking up 15 minutes earlier to prepare something fast such as a protein shake. Eating a healthy breakfast regularly can really set the stage for healthier eating all day long, and promote and maintain a lifetime of wellness,” added Mr. Valenzuela.

According to the Herbalife Nutrition Philosophy, every meal consumed should have a calorie intake breakdown of 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fats. Carbohydrates should include, at the very least, some fruits or vegetables.

KZ, TJ showcase superb musicality in Vivo V9 mall tour

Singer KZ Tandingan earned new fans with her powerful performances during her stint on China’s high-rating TV show, Singer 2018. Although she did not make it to the finals, KZ made a mark with the Chinese audience, cementing her title as Asia’s Soul Supreme.

Now back in the Philippines, KZ performed for her fans at the SM Mall of Asia on April 22, Sunday, to support the launch of Vivo’s newest flagship smartphone, the V9 with a 24-megapixel AI selfie camera and more. It was her first public performance in the Philippines following her appearance on Singer 2018.

As the crowd roared in welcome, KZ belted out her signature hits like her cover of Lorde’s “Royals,” which she performed on Singer 2018, and Air Supply’s “Two Less Lonely People in the World.” She also sang her original songs, “Labo” and “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako.”



Vivo Philippines Brand Director Annie Lim, meanwhile, expressed the global smartphone company’s continuous support for KZ.

“Like the rest of the Filipinos, we are very proud of KZ and her achievements on Singer 2018. She embodies the brand’s personality—young, trendy, and techie. We are very happy that someone as talented as her is part of the Vivo family,” she said.

“We can’t wait to see what she’s going to do next,” Lim added.


The event was even made more special since acoustic balladeer TJ Monterde, KZ’s equally talented boyfriend and fellow Vivo endorser, performed for the event. He sang his own compositions, “Tulad Mo,” “Kahit Kunwari,” and “Ikaw at Ako.”

TJ also had nothing but praises for her girlfriend as she introduced her on stage and encouraged the mallgoers to cheer KZ on.

“KZ deserves a loud crowd,” he said.



After the pair answered questions from the press and gave away a brand new Vivo V9, they sang their hit duet, “Ikaw at Ako Pa Rin,” which made their fans overjoyed with kilig.

KZ and TJ then went around the Perfect Shot, Perfect View Vivo V9 mall tour experience booths and greeted Vivo V9 buyers and their fans after the program. The two also surprised mallgoers when they dropped by the Vivo kiosk at the SM Cyberzone.

KZ has been a proud Vivo endorser since September 2017. She has also been active in joining Vivo in its mall tours and activities since then. TJ, on the other hand, became a Vivo endorser since May 2017.
