Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa), a major insurer in the country, has partnered with ExpressPay Inc., the leader in payment services franchising, with the objective of making insurance simpler and more accessible to the underinsured population in the Philippines.

Affordable Sun Life Grepa insurance plans will be made available across ExpressPay branches nationwide.

“We are honored that Express Pay entrusted the life insurance plans of their clients to Sun Life Grepa,” Sun Life Grepa Vice President and Head of Affinity Marketing Joen M. Songco said. “Both companies are positive that this partnership will reinforce our commitment to close the significant life insurance protection gap in the country.”

Sun Life Grepa President Richard S. Lim confirms the sentiment. “We believe that financial protection knows no bounds. This partnership helps break down barriers and empowers people with the protection they need. It truly supports our mission of providing lifetime financial security to Filipinos.”

“Financial inclusion has always been one of our key priorities,” ExpressPay President Anson T. Uy said. “As we continue to innovate, ExpressPay recognizes the need to provide its clients value-added service that will enable them to be ready for uncertainties and create a more financially secure future for their families.”

The agreement was signed by Sun Life Grepa executives Richard S. Lim, President, and Joen Songco, Vice President for Affinity Marketing, together with ExpressPay Inc. President Anson T. Uy and Business Development Head Helena Respicio.

Formed in 2011, ExpressPay is a member of Safesoft Solutions, Inc. a leading provider of information technology solutions in the Philippines while Sun Life Grepa is a joint venture between Sun Life Philippines and the Yuchengco Group of Companies.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto (sixth from left) is joined by Dr. Francis Pasaporte (fifth from left), president of Diabetes Philippines; and Lotis Ramin, AstraZeneca Philippines country president (fourth from right), as well as members of patient groups, as they partner to expand the ACT NOW Program (Addressing Complications Today through Network of Warriors).

One Filipino develops chronic kidney disease (CKD) every 40 minutes, and one Filipino CKD patient progresses to dialysis every hour.1 Impaired kidney function remains one of the highest causes of death and disability in the Philippines, according to recent data. CKD has been identified as a leading cause of premature death among Filipinos.

The City Government of Mandaluyong, led by Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. (seventh from right, standing) is acting now to address CKD in the country. This partnership also includes the Philippine Association of Diabetes Educators, Association of Diabetes Nurse Educators of the Philippines, Philippine Diabetes Support Group, Dialysis Philippines, and Kidney Transplant Association of the Philippines.

Addressing this escalating health concern, Diabetes Philippines Inc. (DP), AstraZeneca Philippines, with patient and educator groups, have recently joined forces with the local governments of Mandaluyong and Pasig to expand ACT NOW Program (Addressing Complications Today through Network of Warriors) against the cardio-renal complications of Diabetes and Hypertension, which aims to create awareness of CKD risk factors and promote early screening to save lives.

Dr. Francis Pasaporte, Immediate Past President of Diabetes Philippines (DP) and proponent of this advocacy, said this initiative aims to further the awareness on CKD through risk factor identification and early screening, education of healthcare professionals on recommended disease treatment, and empowering patients to become part of the solution.

“We, in DP, advocate the implementation of the ACT NOW Program through our network of warriors with the help of local government units (LGUs) that are at the forefront in delivering healthcare. We are happy to partner with them and we are strongly supportive of the programs of the LGU here in Mandaluyong and Pasig. So hopefully, we will put this program at the forefront in screening all high-risk individuals to prevent kidney and cardiovascular diseases,” Dr. Pasaporte added.

Lotis Ramin, AstraZeneca Philippines country president, said, “AstraZeneca is highly committed to forge partnerships with the public sector to address the needs of patients across the full continuum of CKD care. We are one with LGUs and the national government in targeting better health outcomes for Filipino CKD patients.”

Since the program’s launch in 2021, Ramin said they have screened over 500,000 Filipino patients across the country.

“We are not stopping there. We are targeting to screen one million Filipino patients by year end. Indeed, it is an ambitious endeavor, one that cannot be solved by a single organization. Alongside Diabetes Philippines and patient advocacy groups, we are extremely excited to share this goal and partner with the Cities of Mandaluyong and Pasig. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Filipino patients,” Ramin continued.

With this collaboration, LGUs will open more sites where Filipinos can access free risk assessment, micral test (an immunospecific dipstick for detection of low concentrations of albumin in urine), and uACR (urine albumin-creatinine ratio) testing for monitoring of kidney health and prevention of disease progression. These tests usually cost P2,500 to P3,000 pesos and are not easily accessible in the country.

"Mandaluyong prioritizes the health and well-being of our people. For CKD cases, we want this disease not to progress to dialysis. This is the reason we are partnering with the DP, the private sector and patient groups to roll out ACT NOW CKD program in our city. Early detection and screening are important. And we remain thankful to all our partners for helping us save more lives," said Mandaluyong Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr.

During the partnership signing ceremony, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto explained, “As the country and communities develop, cases of CKD among Filipino patients are also on the rise. And we are proud to say that Pasig has one of the biggest dialysis centers in the country. But we feel downhearted every time we see Filipino dialysis patients struggling. That is why we are doing a holistic approach. For patients, they can go to our social welfare assistance centers and they will receive the maximum assistance that the city blanket can provide. And we continue to partner with government agencies and the private sector to help us provide patients with the care they need. So, we are trying to look at everything from a holistic perspective.”

Diabetes Philippines and AstraZeneca Philippines plan to seal more partnerships with LGUs this year, in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The multi-sectoral partnership envisions to alleviate disease burden, mortality, and healthcare expenditure in the Philippines through a resilient end-to-end healthcare solution starting with prevention and proper management of CKD.

Food safety has always been the Jollibee Group’s anchor in serving great-tasting food and maintaining its customers’ trust worldwide. As part of its Global Sustainability Agenda dubbed Joy for Tomorrow, the company is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable food safety practices across its supply chain.

“Food safety has always been part of our DNA. Across all our brands, we go to great lengths to ensure safety in all our practices—from food production and handling to processing and distribution,” said Wally Mateo, Jollibee Group Vice President and Head of Quality Management.

Jollibee Group conducts yearly Food Safety inspections and certifications across all its stores, commissaries, and logistics. In 2022, the company conducted over 15,000 Food, Service, Cleanliness, & Condition Audits across all its stores worldwide. Jollibee Group employees also received over 125,000 online training hours on ensuring food safety and service quality.

The Jollibee Group uses risk-based and flexible methodologies to thoroughly verify the food safety and quality systems of its suppliers, commissaries, and distribution centers. It also conducts annual risk assessments to determine the appropriate audit mode, which is tailored fit to the store’s needs and to the season or external conditions during the audit period.

As of 2022, 100% of the Jollibee Group’s commissaries have their own internal audit system, which adheres to at least one external globally recognized standard such as Food Safety System Certification (FSSC), Safe Quality Foods (SQF), and ISO22000, among others. In addition, 94% of its commissaries have obtained third-party certifications from audits recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

The Jollibee Group also recognizes the importance of maintaining food safety standards in the transport, storage, and distribution of food products. Therefore, the company ensures 100% of its third-party logistics providers in the Philippines acquire ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems certification.

Supply Chain Continuous Learning Program

The Jollibee Group, through its Global Quality Management Unit, recently gathered its global network of vendors and suppliers, commissary employees, and support groups in a training session on the latest industry trends.

The Jollibee Group partnered with global leader in cloud based QMS (Quality Management Systems) software, Veeva Systems, to conduct the training. The speakers were Natasha Telles D’Costa, Veeva Systems Director for Strategy – Food and Beverage for Asia; and Nirva Tee, Accounts & Partnerships Manager for Asia.

Food Safety A Priority. Several stores of different Jollibee Group brands handed out free sanitizers to aggregator riders to remind them of the key role they play in ensuring food safety for customers

World Food Safety Day Celebration

The Jollibee Group also celebrates World Food Safety Day annually as part of continuing efforts to foster a food safety culture across the business. This year’s celebration focused on the theme “Food Safety Beyond Our Doors,” which recognized the key role of third-party delivery riders in ensuring food safety. Several Jollibee Group restaurants handed sanitizers and a scanned QR code containing a Food Safety Reminder poster to riders. The poster, written in Filipino, details the benefits of ensuring food safety to both riders and consumers, as well as the food safety tips that riders can practice regularly.

“As more consumers rely on food delivery services for their everyday meals, food safety and quality throughout the delivery process becomes even more significant. Food delivery riders can make a difference by preventing foodborne diseases from spreading and implementing food safety practices themselves,” Mateo stressed.

Secure your future, secure your community: Four reasons why you should start your LPG Biz

Build a brighter tomorrow for your family by investing in a trusted LPG business like Solane LPG

To cope with the rising costs of basic needs, more and more Filipinos are turning to additional sources of income on top of their regular jobs, including taking on extra jobs, side ‘gigs,’ and establishing their own small business.

A 2022 nationwide survey by OCTA Research has found that four out of five Filipinos are interested in starting their own business, with respondents saying they want to manage their own time, earn daily and work at home or anywhere.

While the desire for financial freedom is always present, the challenge has always been knowing where to start. The options for small business ideas can be overwhelming, but most are also extremely common, and finding your own customers can be close to impossible. But have you ever considered a kitchen staple like your LPG tank as a potential source of income?

Here are some of the reasons why you should explore being an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) business partner:

  • Small startup capital with stable passive income

Starting your own business venture is daunting not only due to significant costs but the lengthy process of building a brand. Being an LPG distributor or retailer offers you a business opportunity with under a million pesos without having to go through the rigorous process of making your own product.

Solane LPG, one of the trusted LPG brands in the country, offers a retailer package for as low as PHP 24,000, which already includes eight 11kg LPG cylinders, six 1.4kg LPG cylinders, store branding, training certificate, and License to Operate permit. A package worth PHP 250,000 includes an assortment of 70 LPG cylinders, a motorcycle vehicle, a weighing scale, a rental subsidy, and a staff uniform, on top of the LTO permit and training certificate.

  • LPG as an essential product

Like water and food, LPG is a basic product used for various kitchen tasks such as cooking rice, preparing viands, baking, and heating water. LPG is a staple kitchen fuel in Filipino homes due to its reliability, efficiency, and economical cost, which means you can be sure that there will always be a steady demand for your product.

LPG demand has remained relatively stable even during the pandemic and will continue to have a market despite changes in the economy.

  • Huge LPG demand in local municipalities

LPG is still one of the primary kitchen fuels in 40% of households in the Philippines. Consumers usually prefer to purchase through neighborhood channels, such as retailers, nearby sari-sari stores, and other neighborhood sellers. Investing in an LPG business that will serve your community and even neighboring municipalities will provide you with a steady customer base.

Solane’s nationwide distribution system consists of more than 50 distributors and approximately 10,000 points of sale located in different parts of the Philippines. With 13 LPG refilling plants nationwide and LPG logistics using tech-advanced and safe lorries, you are also guaranteed to efficiently get LPG supply wherever you choose to put up your Solane LPG business.

  • Help prevent LPG-related fires in the community

Because of the high demand for LPG, there are malicious individuals who resort to unsafe and unfair LPG trade practices, leading to the rampant spread of unregulated LPG products at risk of exploding or causing massive fires.

By becoming an authorized LPG distributor in your area, you provide access to safe and trusted quality kitchen fuel. On top of securing your family’s future by having a passive income, you also get to secure the safety of your family's hard-earned property by helping prevent LPG-related fires caused by substandard and illegal LPG products in your community.

Being a verified Solane LPG distributor or retailer guarantees that you only sell safe and quality LPG products that are compliant with government standards. With over 5 decades of experience and expertise in the LPG industry, Solane offers stringent safety and quality measures, such as regular cylinder maintenance and the exclusive 7-Point Safety Check, which will provide your potential customers with peace of mind. Solane LPG’s world-class team of certified technical engineers and trained dealer technicians are also ready to work with you in ensuring top-notch LPG quality and seamless distribution of LPG products.

Interested Solane LPG business partners may download the Solane Application form on the Solane website (, fill it out and submit it via email to A business assessment will then be conducted, where interested business partners will meet with a Solane LPG representative to discuss the business proposal and undergo assessment.

(From left to right) SM Prime Energy Consultant Jaime Patinio, SM Prime Chief Finance Officer John Nai Peng Ong, SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim, CREC Chairman Edgar Saavedra, CREC President & CEO Oliver Tan, CREC Sr. Manager Sales & Energy Trading Jerard Garcia

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) and Citicore Renewable Energy Company (CREC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on 11 July 2023 as a joint commitment to champion renewable energy.

Through this partnership, SM Prime will source its energy requirements of up to 90-Megawatts (MWac) from CREC’s upcoming Lumbangan Solar Power Plant in Tuy, Batangas. The long-term agreement will commence in the first half of 2024. This is in line with the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) policies of the Department of Energy.

This development further strengthens both CREC and SM Prime’s commitment to the Department of Energy’s program of moving up the renewable energy supply component of the Philippines to 35% by the year 2030.

“This partnership marks our strong commitment to providing sustainable operations in our developments nationwide. It is aligned with SM Prime’s target of achieving net zero by the year 2040. SM Prime ensures that its risk-informed investments catalyze sustainable development and positive change in the communities where it operates,” said Mr. John Ong, SM Prime Chief Finance Officer.

The agreement with SM Prime adds to CREC’s long list of blue-chip company partners, attesting to the company’s solid performance and service excellence.

“We are happy to partner with SM Prime in providing clean and safe renewable energy for their power requirements,” said Mr. Oliver Tan, CREC President. “We believe that their support and trust in us through this partnership reflects our commitment as a renewable energy provider, and we are glad that SM Prime shares in our vision of a sustainable future,” Mr. Tan added.

This Urban Farming initiative is led by the SM Foundation through its Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan on Sustainable Agriculture Program (KSK-SAP). It’s about uplifting the farmer community, fostering environmental consciousness, food security, and creating livelihood and income opportunities for marginalized urban communities. Through the KSK-SAP, a comprehensive program of urban farming techniques, product development, marketing, and basic accounting are offered in strategically-located field schools.

SM City Roxas

The KSK program has successfully conducted over 260 sustainable agricultural trainings, benefiting a total of 28,550 farmers. These trainings have taken place in both rural and urban settings, where participants have been exposed to sustainable farming modules that promote the cultivation of nutritious, high-quality vegetables and fruits.

SM City Clark

Partnering with the SM Foundation, SM Supermalls, and SM Markets are the following government agencies; the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Tourism, and the Quezon City Government. Each government organization and LGU plays a vital role in maintaining the viability of the program, and so that no stone is left unturned in ensuring its success.

As an example, the SM Foundation has brought SM Supermalls and SM Markets into the picture so that as these urban farmers successfully harvest, they’re given an opportunity to market and sell their produce at the Sunday Markets that are now being held in several malls across the nation. When the produce reaches a volume that goes beyond this Sunday marketing mechanism, the SM Markets offer other alternatives.

SM City Naga

It’s about creating integration and circularity so that a mini-economic ecosystem is realized. After all, it can’t be about teaching them what and how to farm and then leaving them with no outlet with which to monetize this harvest. The SM Foundation creates these strategic partnerships so that true income opportunities become part of the overall scenario.

SM City Cabanatuan

Who would have thought that this vision of Henry Sy, Sr., back in 2007, would have been so uncanny in predicting the mounting problems and issues we face today in agriculture, sustainable food production, food security, and urban development? It’s a vision and dream that those in the SM Foundation are very proud to carry on, and deliver.

SM is in the business of creating a sustainable environment. From being the first to consider renewable energy in mall buildings, to implementing energy-saving devices, we continue to meet significant sustainability milestones.

Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO, speaks at the GFiber launch

In a world where connectivity has become a crucial life enabler, having access to a reliable internet connection is extremely important. Such a connection should seamlessly support various internet needs, be it for learning, earning or leisure. But with rising costs of basic necessities, many may think hindi kaya ang fast and reliable connectivity and that they’ll just have to make the best of what they’ve got.

Globe At Home is poised to change that, as it delivers a game-changing innovation that will make Filipinos believe na “Kaya Mo Now.”

In line with its mission to champion the country's digital transformation, Globe launched on Thursday, July 20, 2023, a new product that aims to empower more Filipinos and show them that they can go beyond their limits: GFiber Prepaid – an unlimited prepaid fiber WiFi for Filipino homes.

"Over the years, Filipinos have settled for regular internet services they can afford to meet their and their family's internet needs without realizing that they are limiting their potential. With Globe at Home's latest innovation na “Kaya Mo Now” - GFiber Prepaid - we can now tell them na kahit ano, kaya mo, kaya ng pamilya, kaya now," said Raymond Policarpio, Vice President of Globe At Home Brand Management.

At the GFiber Prepaid “Kaya Mo Now” launch at The Globe Tower in BGC, attendees were given the chance to witness and experience first-hand the power of fiber technology through a Fiber Lab Tour led by a group of experts, the Globe Home Squad. In the immersive session, attendees learned about how fiber optic technology works, experiencing its journey to the household.

Attendees were then brought inside an installation of a GFiber Prepaid-powered home where influencers showcased how this powerful yet affordable prepaid fiber connection can be used for their diskarte in life, among them online learning, live selling, and content creation.

Hosted by a madiskarteng Pinoy herself, Neri Miranda, the event also featured real-life experiences and stories of madiskarteng Pinoy like Imarie Yoshida, a former brand ambassador turned online seller, and Carmencita Bumanglag, a hustling sari-sari store owner. GCash warns its users to be cautious when linking their accounts to gaming apps

Downloaded games are a popular form of entertainment for many Filipinos. However, some of these may contain phishing malwares, according to a recent joint investigation by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) and GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet.

The most common red flag to look out for in downloaded gaming apps is a blatant request for private information such as credit card numbers, or passwords for social media and bank accounts. Most of the time, these gaming apps contain malwares that will trick players into clicking a phishing link. These are common in apps where players buy character upgrades or items and play-to-earn games.

“Links inside a gaming app scam can easily be distinguished because they use irregular formats like (http://gc.ashpin). Clicking on such links redirects users to obviously fraudulent websites and such actions should immediately be aborted,” advises GCash chief risk officer Ingrid Rose Ann Beroña.

For gambling apps such as e-bingo platforms, users are advised to check if the company that created them is listed on the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) website.

P/Capt. Michelle Sabino of the PNP-ACG adds, “Gamers should be wary of seemingly trustworthy persons or agencies initiating chats but soliciting personal information. Legitimate persons or institutions will never ask for such sensitive information.”

Both PNP-ACG and GCash emphasize the importance of being cautious towards emails or text messages that request for personal information. They also advise against clicking any embedded links. Regularly updating one’s mobile phone or computer software, which includes cybersecurity features, is also recommended. Users are also advised to create strong passwords for all online accounts.

Users are encouraged to report incidents of scams, fraud, and cybercrime to the PNP-ACG through its hotlines at (02) 8414-1560 or 0998-598-8116 or via email at

To report a scam, visit the official GCash Help Center at or message Gigi on the website and type “I want to report a scam.” Customers can also reach out to the official GCash hotline at 2882 for inquiries and other concerns.

Leading energy provider Solane LPG ensures safety and quality through exclusive 7-Point Safety Check

Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) has been a popular kitchen fuel for many decades in many homes and businesses because it’s very energy efficient, making it faster to cook food and is easier to control for precision cooking.

Despite the popularity of LPG as a convenient, reliable and cost-efficient fuel, recent news on LPG-related fires have increased people’s concern over the safety of their LPG tanks. However, these accidents are highly preventable if you have the right tank. Buying only from trusted LPG distributors and making necessary safety checks in the kitchen both spell a difference in preventing fires caused by LPG leaks and explosion.

Here are important points that should be checked to ensure that LPG tanks are in good condition:

  • Environment

While most people want to keep their LPG tank hidden in their kitchen cabinets, doing so can be unsafe. LPG tanks need to be placed in a well-ventilated area to make sure that if a leak does occur, there is a way for the gas to escape. Placing the LPG in an open area away from direct sunlight, rain, dust and heat, prevents the buildup of gas, which might cause an explosion if exposed to any ignition source, such as electrical sparks and flames.

  • O-Ring

The O-ring, which is located inside the valve, primarily works to stop gas from leaking. It needs to be free from scratches or cracks to ensure that it does its job. If the O-ring looks damaged, customers should talk to their local distributor to get it replaced as its repair should only be done by certified personnel.

  • Regulator

The regulator that is placed onto your tank is a key part to making the gas usable for cooking. The LPG in the tank is stored at a high pressure so the regulator reduces it to a pressure that the appliances can handle. A faulty regulator could lead to damage to LPG accessories, which is why it is ideal to have it replaced every three years.

  • Regulator and Valve Connection

Making sure that the regulator is correctly connected onto the valve of the LPG tank is important to make sure that the LPG can flow to appliances without issue. One should also check that the threads of where the regulator is screwed are in good condition to ensure that the regulator is connected properly to prevent leaks.

  • Hose

The hose that connects the LPG tank to the appliance is a common weak point. Hoses that are damaged or past their expiry date may cause a gas leak, that is why it is important to constantly check its condition and replace it every 2 years, even if it still looks fine. To help keep your hose in good condition, avoid a long hose to reduce bending as that can affect the gas and the sturdiness of the hose.

  • Hose Connection

Metal clamps are used to secure the hose to both the LPG regulator and the appliance to tighten the connection. This keeps the hose from moving too much and keeps a tight seal on the whole system to prevent any gas from leaking out.

  • Flame Quality

Lastly, one should also check if the burner is producing a blue flame. A blue flame indicates that the gas is being burned efficiently, meaning that the appliance is functioning properly, and the installation was done correctly.

This can feel overwhelming just to make sure your LPG tank is safe and of high quality, but you won’t have to worry about checking all of these parts if you use Solane LPG. As one of the most trusted LPG brands in the country, Solane LPG offers a free 7-point Safety Check for every installation through its Hatid Bahay delivery. The dedicated riders are there to ensure everything is safe and installed properly, all for free.

Simply order from your nearest Solane LPG authorized distributor or through the Solane Web Ordering Platform (, the Solane LPG Facebook page (, or through the Solane LPG app, and the Hatid Bahay delivery rider will do the check when they deliver your new tank.
