As the country celebrates National Arts Month, Camarines Sur 2nd District Representative Gabriel Bordado Jr. called on the national government to strengthen the promotions of arts, saying it can be instrumental in driving tourism growth.

Former President Corazon Aquino declared February as National Arts Month under Presidential Proclamation No. 683. It is during this time that Filipino artists are honored for their contributions to the country’s history, culture, and overall development as a nation.

“It is unfortunate to note… that for many people art comes second fiddle to
fields deemed more serious, lucrative, or worthwhile such as business or science. It is not viewed as a significant profession, but as a luxury and as a hobby to be pursued on the side,” Bordado lamented.

Therefore, he said, a month-long celebration of the arts might be seen as a frivolity, particularly at a time when the country is still struggling to shake off the pandemic’s ill effects.

However, Bordado noted, arts provide direct benefits for the country’s economic activity. The sector creates more jobs especially for the marginalized people and improves the quality of products and services.

“When creativity is effectively interwoven into various fields, we are able to build better roads and infrastructure, innovate processes, advance technology, elevate the natural beauty of our surroundings, and provide solutions to different challenges that may arise,” he said.

He said that in tourism, the art sector is very vital as it encourages the rest of the world to see our distinctive culture through many creative endeavors and disciplines.

Prior to the pandemic, tourism contributed around 13 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA), the gross value added generated by tourism industries and other industries of the economy, amounted to P2.48 trillion in 2019, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Meanwhile, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said that in 2022, over 2.65 million foreign tourists visited the Philippines, raking in roughly 3.82 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

Bordado also said that in sectors such as education, art is invaluable in encouraging young minds to learn and understand different subjects and areas.

“It is a great motivator for the youth to grow into productive, learned, and empathic members of society. All of these allow the country to create a more empowered citizenry, generate more income, and advance in our development as a nation,” he pointed out.

He said that while the art sector’s profitability cannot be disputed, more than its commercial advantages, is is also an integral part of our humanity.

“Creativity and the need to express it is as crucial as our need to eat, to breathe, to feel, or to seek connection to other human beings. It allows for self-expression and reflection. And it is through the different mediums of art – such as literature, theater, dance, music, painting, and more – that humans are able to make better sense of the world and of the other souls inhabiting it,” Bordado added.

He said that as Filipinos, art plays a valuable role in strengthening our sense of nationalism. Seeing our history and culture translated into different disciplines defines and binds Filipinos as a people.

He said that it is through the works of Filipino artists that generations after generations are able to learn and understand our collective triumphs and hardships as a nation.

Furthermore, he said art is a language that transcends time, race, age, gender, educational attainment, religion, or socio-economic class.

This year, the theme of the National Arts Month is “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng
Galing.” It alludes to the bounty of extraordinary, one-of-a-kind works borne from the passion and talents of the Filipino artists. Despite the dismal situation we currently find ourselves in, beauty and excellence could still spring and thrive. It is a stark reminder of our capability to heal and rise above our obstacles, and the capability of art to restore and reinspire our drive for

Lorenzo V. Tan, the CEO of House of Investments, the listed holding company of YGC (Yuchengco Group of Companies), and the majority shareholder of iPeople said, “YGC has long prioritized education as one of our contributions to nation building. It is very timely that our Mapua schools are launching this very innovative and global initiative as we celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of our past Chairman, Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco, who had always advocated for making quality education more affordable for Filipinos and had forged many successful partnerships with industry leaders from around the world."

Cezar P. Consing, the CEO of Ayala Corporation, added: “This initiative will allow young people access to education that, while Philippine centered, is also global in quality and in reach. Barbie Almalbis

Filipino singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis marks a monumental milestone in music with the official release of her Tower Sessions Live album under Sony Music Entertainment and a reunion concert featuring her iconic bands Hungry Young Poets and Barbie’s Cradle.

Both celebrations honor her 25th anniversary in the local music scene as a woman who successfully navigated the realm of Pinoy rock with emotionally resonant songwriting and artistic independence.

Presenting a new arrangement of her old and new songs, Barbie Almalbis’ Greatest Hits live album was produced by Eric and Carlo Perlas of Tower of Doom, recorded by Kyle Cayton, and mixed/mastered by Simon Durias. It will also feature career-defining hits such as “Firewoman,” “Torpe,” “Tabing Ilog,” “The Dance,” “Goodnight,” and “Just A Smile,” along with fairly new tracks: “Days Are Long,” “Silaw,” “Tigre,” and “Kumpas,” the album’s carrier single.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to record our songs live, because we’re always rearranging songs as a band, and I think there’s something special that gets captured when the we play live together,” Almalbis shares. “My producers and collaborators did such a great job of making you feel like you’re at the gig. You can feel the power of the kick drum and the bass, and then have guitars blasting in your ear — in a pleasant way, of course.”

Aside from the release of Tower Sessions Live on digital platforms, Barbie Almalbis is set to headline her 25th Anniversary concert at 123 Block, Mandala Park on March 11 (Saturday), from 2pm onwards. Celebrating the impact of her music as a guide to many people’s journey in life, the show will reunite her with former bandmates in Hungry Young Poets and Barbie’s Cradle.

Aptly titled Firewoman:25 Years of Barbie Almalbis, the mini-music fest will also feature sets by some of the country’s finest acts, including Sandwich, Gab Alipe of Urbandub, Clara Benin, I Belong To The Zoo, Kai del Rio, and Bird.

Reflecting on her career as an artist, Almalbis expressed gratitude to her fans who have been supportive of her endeavors through the years. “I didn’t have so many plans growing up, but always just dreamt of playing music. I’m so grateful that I get to do this and share the experience with others too. I’m always touched by the support of my fans and friends, and really humbled and encouraged by their words and stories about how these songs have also become part of their journey.”

Barbie Almalbis’ Tower Sessions Live is now available on all digital platforms worldwide under Sony Music Entertainment.

Tickets to her upcoming concert, Firewoman:25 Years of Barbie Almalbis are available for purchase via TicketMelon. The event is presented by GNN Entertainment Productions, in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment, Backspacer Records, JB Music, Nova Wellness Store, D&D, Smirnoff Mule, and 123 Block.

Operations at the Baliwag RHUs run even more smoothly after the upgrades made by SM Foundation and UNIQLO.

Small as they seem, local community health centers hold a significant impact in improving Filipinos’ lives.

According to the 2017 National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS), Filipinos continue to count on public medical facilities, such as public hospitals, rural health units, or barangay health stations, for their healthcare treatments.

The NDHS showed that the majority of parents whose children had fever, diarrhea, or acute respiratory infection sought advice or treatment from public healthcare facilities.

These facilities are also the most common source of contraceptives. Beyond this, public health facilities have been an active platform for vaccination and other key health programs.

But despite their vital role, the facilities are hindered from functioning at their full potential by a multitude of challenges, such as deficiency of facility infrastructure, and lack of strategic medical equipment and supplies.

Providing services that the community deserves

Just north of Metro Manila stands the Rural Health Unit (RHU) III of Baliwag City.

The facility is one of the RHUs recently upgraded by the SM group through the SM Foundation’s partnership with UNIQLO Philippines.

The RHU serves 300 patients daily (on average).

The majority are from low-income households from 8 barangays, where three are the biggest in the city.

The number does not include COVID-19 vaccinations, family planning services, medicine and prescription refills, and requests for medical and death certificates.

“Bukod sa may mga anay, ang mga pintura ay nagba-bakbakan. Ang mga pinto at ceiling namin ay sira or may mga crack. Kailangan na talagang i-renovate dahil marami nang sira,” RHU III midwife Rebecca Galves shared the previous state of their center.

Aside from the damage that comes from daily use, the RHU’s layout wasn’t optimized to fit documents, medical tools and equipment, and necessary furniture.

Patients had to sit close to each other during checkups and consultations, limiting workers’ efficiency and patients’ privacy and safety.

“Dahil masikip dito sa loob, hindi namin kayang i-accommodate lahat ng pasyente. Unang una, hindi dapat maging crowded sa pasilidad dahil tayo ay nasa pandemic pa kailangan pa rin ng social distancing. Kaya ang mga pasyente namin ay kadalasang naghihintay sa initan sa labas. Kapag umuulan, nababasa sila,” she recalled.

“Bukod sa marami kaming kagamitan at documents na hindi na magkasya sa mga cabinets, sa isang kwarto, tatlong kama pa ang nakalagay. At dahil masikip, minsan, ang waste products ay nasa ilalim na ng kama. Hindi namin maibigay ang komportableng kapaligiran at ang serbisyong gusto sana naming maihatid,” she added.

For her, the renovation of the center done by the SM Foundation could not have come at a better time.

Now, she can finally deliver the medical help she has long hoped to give the community—a service people deserve.
With renewed fervor, midwife Rebecca Galves fixes the maternity bed inside Baliwag RHU III.

Galves takes a pregnant mother’s blood pressure in preparation for her monthly checkup.

Aside from the RHUs in Baliwag, SM Foundation and UNIQLO’s partnership pave the way for the renovation of Pulilan RHU 1 and 2.

The upgrade of these two health facilities centers on SM Foundation’s mission: help community health centers by providing adequate facilities and equipment to improve medical care, especially in rural areas.

Local health workers come together to plan for the reopening of Pulilan RHU II

Through the recent upgrade, the centers are ready to meet the accreditation standards set by PhilHealth.

In turn, the RHUs can provide medical care to more indigent and underprivileged patients.

They can also receive funding from the government for administrative use and the purchase of supplies to better serve the community.

Continued trust in public health

Close by is Baliwag’s RHU I. Much like the center where Galvez works, the facility serves low-income individuals. One of them is Hazel Esquilona, a single mother of three.

“Malaking tulong talaga ang health center na ito para sa amin dahil tuwing may nagkakasakit po sa amin at wala kaming mapagkukunan ng pera, mayroon kaming matatakbuhan. Nito lang, nagkasakit ang anak ko—suspected po noon na may dengue o UTI siya. Wala po akong pera pero dahil dito sa health center, nagawa kong ipasuri ang ihi at dugo ng anak ko,” Esquilona recalled how the center saved her child’s life when she had nowhere to turn to.

“Nakumpirma po na may UTI siya. At kahit wala po kaming pera, agarang nabigyan ng tamang gamot ang anak ko. Nabigyan din po kami ng libreng antibiotic at paracetamol,” she said as she shares why the center has been close to her heart.

Hazel Esquilona brings her daughter to the Baliwag RHU I for a consultation before receiving the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine.

And so, when their family had another medical emergency, she did not hesitate to visit the RHU I.

This time, she felt even more at ease seeking health care as the warmth of the health workers was complemented by an upgraded facility.

“Ngayon, ang isang anak ko naman ay nakagat ng kuting. Dito po kami tumakbo dahil bilang isang single mother na may simpleng kabuhayan, hindi ko po afford ang vaccine sa hospital o clinic,” she said.

“Para sa kagaya naming kapos talaga sa pera, malaking tulong ang center na ito. Maayos ang serbisyo ng mga staff at maaliwalas at komportable na rin ngayon sa loob ng center. Tuwing biglang may nagkakasakit at wala kaming perang pampagamot, mayroon kaming maaasahan,” she capped.

Collaboration is a powerful tool for bridging the gaps in quality healthcare for grassroots communities, such as the partnership between SMFI and UNIQLO.

By understanding the role of different players, such as local organizations, non-profits, and governments, we can create innovative solutions that bring quality healthcare to people—ensuring that no one is left without quality healthcare, especially the vulnerable sector.

(L to R) Jesus Manapat - National Bureau of Investigation, Stephen Floyd Abuso Gopez – Executive Vice president - Association of law students of the Philippines, Atty. Rowel Barba - Director - Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Dean Lilibeth Aragon - President - association of administrators in Hospitality, hotel and restaurant management educational institution and Atty. Dominador Buhain - Chairman Rex Education

Rex Education hosted a press conference recently, bringing together key organizations committed to educating people about piracy and stopping the illegal reproduction and distribution of copyrighted content.

Present at the event were leaders and representatives from the Philippine Association of Law Schools, the Association of Law Students of the Philippines, , the Legal Education Board, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, the National Book Development Board, the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations of the Philippines, the National Bureau of Investigation, Association of Administrators in Hospitality Hotel and Restaurant Management Educational Institution, the Philippine Librarians Association, the Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business, the Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools of Business, Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators, Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines, Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities and the Philippine Educational Measurement and Evaluation Association.

Piracy is defined as the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of copyrighted content, including but not limited to books, movies, music, and the like. In the Philippines, anti-piracy legislation is strengthened by Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines that protects and secures the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations.

The press conference is a part of REX’s anti-piracy campaign, which was launched last September 16, 2022 at the Manila International Book Fair. The primary objective of the campaign is to curb, if not eradicate, content piracy by educating, communicating, and instilling among our colleagues, families, and children a true appreciation of the value of one’s own work. REX’s efforts in this direction are also in recognition and support of the relentless hard work of intellectual property law enforcement agencies in the country.

“We should continue to educate, communicate, and instill among our colleagues, families, and children a true appreciation of the value of one’s own work. In this sense, we are all duty-bearers. But above that, we are Filipinos,” said Atty. Dominador Buhain, chairman of Rex Education. “ Aside from our laws, what also binds us are our values, our sense of pakikipagkapwa, of  pagpapakatao, our pride in our own work, and our respect for each other and of each other’s work.”

Over the past year, the campaign has gained the attention of various organizations with similar sentiments. Stakeholders from the education sector, along with consumers and learners, have all come together to express their support for the movement. Above all, there is a call to protect creators and all their intellectual property in all its forms.

“Throughout our rich history, we recognize and respect one truth about what we do: We are able to accomplish so much because of our people. REX has immense pride for the talented and hardworking individuals who pour their creativity, knowledge, and skills in the development of our learning materials, and these are not limited to books,” said Atty. Dominador Buhain, chairman of Rex Education.

For more information regarding REX’s efforts, feel free to watch the “Proud Ako” anti-piracy campaign video that was launched at MIBF 2022. Visit www.rex.com.ph to support Rex Education in its endeavor of protecting the publishing industry.

They say the easiest way to someone's heart is through the stomach. For many homemakers, especially moms, this is very much true the moment they step into the kitchen. One simply gets an unexplainable feeling when you put the time and effort into preparing something special for the people who matter to you the most. The same also goes, of course, if you’re at the receiving end of such a selfless effort.

While moms are real geniuses in the kitchen, however, there are also some downtimes when inspiration can run low. Fortunately, Jolly is here to curb that challenge for our home cooks. As the leading brand of packed fruit and vegetable products, Jolly  brings convenience straight into our pantries by giving us easy access to fresh ingredients. The brand—which was born from the vision of empowering homemakers and unlocking their creative potential in the kitchen—has continuously enabled this by providing freshly packed fruits and vegetables straight into our pantries. This convenience, combined with the high quality of its products, has made Jolly a market leader in its industry and a top choice among home cooks.

To prove this, we had some moms take on the challenge of creating something special for their loved ones using some of Jolly’s best-sellers. Stephanie Lontoc of StefTheMomma shared one classic dish that never fails to impress her family—Creamy Beef with Mushrooms made with beef sirloin and her go-to Jolly Mushrooms and Jolly Cream of Mushroom Soup! It’s the perfect dish to make if you want to impress without spending too much time in the kitchen as it can only take thirty minutes to prep and cook! Watch her quick recipe here to cop it.

For the recipe, she used Jolly Premium Sliced Mushrooms, Jolly Green Peas and Jolly Garbanzos to make sure that the dish is bursting with flavor and nutrition. More than the convenience and easy access to these ingredients, she also loves how Jolly makes everything easier for the budget.

“With a growing family, dapat mas mindful na tayo sa gastos. Kaya hindi dapat mahal ang delicious meals. Konting creativity lang, pwedeng i-level up ang delicious meal. Kapag nabibigay mo ang sarap at sustansya, yan ang Jolly Love.”

Versatility is also something that’s very important in the kitchen. Thankfully, with easy access to fresh ingredients, you will never run out of dishes to try. The Peach Kitchen proves this by creating her version of Ginataang Gulay using Jolly products . After topping the charts last year with his hit single “Muli,” Filipino singer-songwriter/producer Ace Banzuelo continues his winning streak with the release of his 2023 single “Tadhana”—out on Friday, February 17 via Sony Music Entertainment.

The prolific solo act returns with a catchy, upbeat track that keeps listeners basking in summer’s eternal glow. Providing R&B-inspired vocals atop new wave beats and disco elements, Banzuelo tips its hat to the pure joy of bringing the past and the future together with another pulsating bop.

“This feels dreamy yet groovy at the same time,” describes the talented multihyphenate. “All of these things contribute to my vision and how I just really want to be myself. I’m definitely back making music that makes people move.”

According to Banzuelo, “Tadhana” deals with romantic connection and destiny, and explores losing one’s inhibitions for something that might be fulfilling in the long run.

“Tadhana is about this magical encounter you have with someone and how you’re instantly drawn to that person,” the young hitmaker shares. “The connection is so intense it kind of scares one of you but you’re here telling that person that hey it’s okay maybe what’s on your mind is also what’s on mine.”

Ace Banzuelo considers “Tadhana” as a happy accident that eventually evolved into a song that moved him, not just physically, but on a more resonant level. In a way, he wanted a familiar tune that he can play anywhere—be it live or just a recording, and would make people get all wrapped up with its undeniable groove.

“I went all out with my vocal performance for this track and produced it in a very, very precise manner. The subtlety of all the elements beneath the vocals, the crunchy guitars, dreamy synthesizers, drums, and my voice, contribute to the overall groove of this track. In fact, most of these elements were recorded and finalized in one take. Everything just came together as if it were all meant to happen.”

Ace Banzuelo’s “Tadhana” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Over 12 million Filipinos are now part of the GForest movement

Since its launch in 2019, GCash’s sustainability feature, GForest, has now grown its number of users to 12 million, making it one of the biggest digital environmental movements in the country.

We’re extremely excited to witness the rapid growth of the GForest feature. This goes to show that many Filipinos are onboard our goal of rehabilitating our forests to help reverse the ill-effects of climate change. Likewise, we’re grateful for the hard work of our partners to regenerate our forests while empowering local communities in reforestation initiatives,” said CJ Alegre, GCash AVP for Sustainability.

The Philippines is considered as one of the countries with the richest biodiversity. However, the rapid increase in carbon emissions and the degenerating forest cover has placed it at risk of the impacts of climate change that include rising sea levels, extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and extreme rainfall.

To mitigate the risks brought by deforestation, GCash has initiated GForest in the GCash app to support and contribute to the overall national goals for biodiversity protection, water conservation, and carbon reduction.

Through this interactive platform, users can take an active role in addressing the reforestation issue and carbon emission by collecting “green energy points” whenever they use the app’s various cashless services such as sending money, buying load or paying bills. They can use their points to plant a virtual tree, and in turn, GCash, together with its partners, plants an actual tree on the user’s behalf.

Through the collective efforts with its partners, GCash is well on its way to meet its goal of 2.3 million trees planted by 2023.

Over the last two years, GCash and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) have planted 545,000 trees which are a mix of native fruit-bearing trees and timber, covering 723 hectares of farmland in Carmen, Cebu. The program benefited 200 landowners and farmers, and engaged 189 indirect beneficiaries.

In 2022, GCash also partnered with RAFI for the GForest Mangrove initiative and partnered with 9 people’s organizations from Cebu. The initiative planted 225,000 seedlings out of the targeted 250,000 mangroves.

Meanwhile, its partnership with Bantay Kalikasan of the ABS-CBN Foundation saw about 88,000 seedlings planted in the La Mesa Watershed. The tree planting activities were completed during the rainy season to ensure a high survival rate of the seedlings.

Lastly, joint efforts with the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature-Philippines saw an additional 74,523 seedlings planted, covering 214 hectares of degraded forest in Ipo Watershed which provides about 96 percent of Metro Manila’s water supply. Meanwhile, 85,600 seedlings are now in the nursery, ready for planting.

We have already achieved so much since we launched GForest on the app in 2019. While we’re proud to be meeting our target year on year, there is still more work to be done to protect our environment and communities. So we encourage more Filipinos to join us in this digital sustainability movement,” said Martha Sazon, GCash president and CEO.

WATERWALK RECORDS announces the release of Sambahan, a 10-song series project that contains worship songs from grassroots, church-based songwriters who connected and collaborated through an unconventional ‘lab’ setting via the synergetic fellowship, KONEKOLAB.

Its first single, “MANLILIKHARI,” is a portmanteau of two words, which interestingly allude to that one Being who assumes both roles of a Manlilikha (Creator) and a Hari (King). As WATERWALK RECORDS A&R Jungee Marcelo puts it, “MANLILIKHARI” qualifies God’s sovereignty “over all creation, over everything, over you and me. It’s worthy of worship and adoration.”

Marcelo adds, “The word ‘create’ is very dear to us, and with this song we offer our highest praises to the true Creator, King of everything. “Konekolab Worship aims to cater to the needs of local church congregations for singable worship songs in the local vernacular. Who better to concoct these original worship songs than the very church people in the community. The hope is for each of these songs to become a staple in the church music lineup, as well as in personal times of devotion and prayer.”

“MANLILIKHARI” is co-written with Irving Galang and Mary Ozaraga, both community-based, church leaders whose artistry is balanced by their deep sense of faith. According to Galang, the song celebrates the “awesomeness of our Creator, the ultimate Artist, and our King who did not just create us but also took full responsibility over us by loving us to the fullness of our being, no matter how seemingly small and insignificant we think we are.”

Ozaraga shares that joining this project provided a lot of new challenges for her: writing with a collaborative mindset, and penning a song in Tagalog. “Armed with the Bible, a guitar, and Google Translator, I was able to take on the challenges, greatly inspired by the hard work of Sir Jungee and my team leader, Sir Irving, and was able to witness how God honors faith-fueled hardwork.”

“MANLILIKHARI” is produced by Jungee Marcelo, and arranged with Joshua Capule on piano, Junjun Regalado on drums and percussions, and Ardie De Guzman on guitars. Capturing the Church worship experience with intricate instrumentation and vocal congregational textures, the spiritual anthem reveals a solemn quality to it that soars even as it calms. The expertise of sound engineer extraordinaire Angee Rozul binds everything together with a mix that is divine-like, but filled with so many layers and depth.

The track is sung by Gianne Hinolan, who considers the collaboration a gift. “Seeing how passionate these artists are about communicating the message of God already spoke to me. This is why it was easy for me to say yes to sir Jungee when he invited me to sing the song. As singers, we are expected to be the ones ‘delivering’ our listeners, but here, I was the one who was delivered. Delivered from my doubts and delivered closer to knowing who He is; who God is as our Creator and our King. Wonderful.”

MANLILIKHARI” is out now on all digital music platforms via WATERWALK RECORDS.

Jollibee Group and Manila LGU officials convened anew for the signing of a new memorandum of agreement that will create employment opportunities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Jollibee-owned stores across Manila City.

The Jollibee Group recently announced the resumption of its inclusive employment program to hire senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD) in Manila after renewing its partnership with the city government of Manila.

The partnership is consistent with Jollibee Group’s commitment to provide equal employment opportunities to different sectors, while promoting and practicing inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.

Jollibee Group will hire 28 senior citizens and 17 PWDs as customer relations staff across the Manila branches of Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich, and Burger King through the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO). Manila PESO will screen and determine qualified candidates before endorsing them to the company. Applicants must also secure a medical clearance from the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, the accredited hospital for this program.

“We started this program in 2019 with the Manila LGU. Working on this program in the past few years have allowed us to see how our elderly and differently abled individuals have appreciated the opportunity to find gainful employment. The Jollibee Group continues to support this initiative of the Manila LGU, and we have been very fortunate to have a partner that shares the same desire and passion as the company in looking after the interest of our elderly and PWDs,” said Ruth Angeles, Jollibee Group Vice President and Head for Human Resources-Philippines and Global Organization, Leadership & Culture.

“We look forward to forging more partnerships with other LGUs so we can improve more lives and find reliable staff who can join us in our mission to share the joy of eating with everyone,” Angeles added.

The signing of the new memorandum of agreement held on January 31 was attended by Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, and Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Marlon Lacson, as well as officials from Jollibee Group represented by Public Affairs AVP Atty. Raul Academia and Philippine Region Human Resources Director Anna Prado.

Interested applicants can get more information on this employment program from the Manila Department of Social Welfare and the Office of Senior Citizen’s Affairs.

Back in 2019, Jollibee Group was the first restaurant company in the Philippines to partner with the Manila LGU in providing jobs to over a hundred qualified senior citizens and PWDs in the combined 39 branches of Jollibee, Chowking, Mang Inasal, and Greenwich in Manila. Besides Manila, Jollibee Group also partnered with the LGUs of Antipolo and Pasay in 2019 to implement the same inclusive employment program.
