How do you attract good luck?

When it comes to ushering in good fortune, Feng Shui can help you prepare for the positive energy that the Year of the Pig brings. Feng Shui expert Marites Allen says that it isn’t that hard to practice. The more you do it, the better you get. Here are some tips on how to attract good energy, fortune, and luck this Chinese New Year:

Wear colors that symbolize the element of Fire or Metal. Dress in red, pink, and orange, but don’t forget to add colors that represent Earth – yellow, ocher, or brown – to balance out the flows of inner energy. Shop for fashionable clothes in lucky colors at The SM Store.

Eat food that is dominant in colors red and white. Among hundreds of lucky food, dim sum is one of the luckiest as it translates into having prosperity and good family life. Indulge in Chinese dining at SM’s one of many buffet or Chinese restaurants, and family Dining Deals from January 21 to February 5!

Reimagine your office space. Relieve stress at work and eliminate negative energy by applying Feng Shui techniques in your workspace. Clean out the clutter and tidy up your desk Mari Kondo-style by organizing them in storage boxes, which you can buy at SM Home.

Say hello to accessories. Feng Shui does not only apply to clothing, but also to various accessories such as jewelry, handbags, shoes, and many more. At SM’s Prosperity Bazaar, you can find lucky fruits, plush toys, and trinkets that are perfect for decorating personal spaces until February 5.

Witness a dragon dance. Who would want to miss a signature lion dance during Chinese New Year? At SM, families can watch Prosperity Performances like the Lion and Dragon Dance and Feng Shui Master, as well as the Chinese Character Parade to add excitement to the festivity. Catch it on February 2, 3, and 5!

Scan & Share Your Luck. Scan QR codes in participating SM malls and shake your luck away with the Digital Hongbao where you can win special prizes. Scan as much codes to redeem more gifts until February 5! Check out SM’s Facebook Page for more info.

In the latest commercial for this todo toppings, todo sarap Jollibee Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog, the young actor goes all out!

When it comes to scenes of pure drama—complete with heart-wrenching tears—we can always rely on young actor Joshua Garcia to deliver.

In his latest ad for Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog, Joshua shows off his acting chops and proves that he is truly a capable performer to watch out for.

The scene starts out with familiar elements: a dark, rainy night. A group of friends. And Jollibee’s Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog delivered right at home. Just when the group is about to dig in, a door opens to reveal Joshua, who rightfully feels betrayed that his friends have started to eat without him.

Right on cue, dramatic background music begins to play—and the actor unleashes the full force of his acting prowess. He seamlessly goes through a melodramatic line and even sheds a couple of tears. His friends come over to console him, but Joshua shakes them off and eventually breaks character to reveal that he was just joking around.

“Todo-drama talaga ang ginawa ko sa eksena,” Joshua shared. “’Yung performance na ibinigay ko doon ay parang sa mga drama movies na napanood na nating lahat, kaya todo enjoy talaga!”

Todo Toppings, Todo Sarap

Joshua’s reaction in the ad when his friends enjoyed their Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog without him is perfectly understandable. On the other hand, the friends who just can’t wait to eat are relatable, too—after all, who can resist the todo toppings, todo sarap deliciousness of Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog?

With a beefy, juicy sausage at its core, the Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog also comes with a soft bun, a flavorful smear of special dressing, a generous sprinkling of grated cheese, and a drizzling of sweet, tangy ketchup. The result of this combination is unforgettable, incomparable flavor with every bite!

In this latest Jollibee campaign, Joshua knows that he is not the only one going all the way to todo. “Bawat kagat talaga ng Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog, alam mong todo lahat, lalo sa toppings! Todo sarap, todo enjoy kasama ang buong barkada!”

A new television series entitled "Saludo"; that will feature the everyday heroism of the Filipinos was launched at the Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City recently.

Police Chief Superintendent Rhodel Sermonia of the Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) under the Philippine National Police (PNP) and popular film producer Leonora Sy led the launch of the new television series which will be aired on PTV4 every Sunday at 8 p.m.

Sy said: "SALUDO is a one-hour weekly hero-serye program of PTV4. It is a compilation of stories of everyday Filipino heroes, the least-told life stories which could be the inspiration of each and every Filipino."

"This is dedicated to all the everyday heroism of the Filipino people. They all deserve the praises for whatever heroism they have shown,"  added Sy, executive producer of the show.

For its premier episode on Sunday, Jan. 27, "Saludo"; will feature the heroism of former Philippine National Police Chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa played by actor Polo Ravales.

"We will not delve into the life story of former PNP chief Bato. Well, at some point, it will be tackled a bit. But we will highlight his heroism. That you have to watch the effect of General Bato's heroism in the country's peace and order and in the economy as well," said Sermonia.

He also said: "The first episode will also touch on the issue of illegal drugs and how the government is dealing with the situation."

Sermonia added: "If you know someone who has done an act of heroism, please approach us and we will see what we can do. We need to share this heroism to the world because we want the others to be inspired and do good."

Other celebrities who attended the press launch of the new television series were Bahjo Cabauatan, director of the TV series; and Dennis Coronel Macalintal, line producer.

Also at the launch were two of the five Gwapulis - PO3 Alexander Po and PO1 Willy Quinto - who will be part of the first season of "Saludo"; Other Gwapulis who will join in the succeeding series of "Saludo" are former Mr. International PO2 Neil Perez and PO1 Richard Pangilinan.

Sermonia said that "Saludo"is also one way of reintroducing to the public the role of PCRG. "People are familiar with HPG and CIDG but the PCRG has no recall to some people. PCRG assists and helps the people in times of calamities and disasters."

Integrated Nutrition and Health Actions in the First 1,000 Days of Life Program to benefit 40,000 children under-5 and 57,000 pregnant/lactating women in Samar, Northern Samar and Zamboanga del Norte

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and UN children’s agency UNICEF, in partnership with the Department of Health and National Nutrition Council, launch an integrated nutrition and health program targeting the first 1,000 days of life to benefit vulnerable children and women in Samar, Northern Samar, and Zamboanga del Norte.

“The Korean Government fully supports the Philippine government in its goal of addressing malnutrition and achieving universal healthcare. By giving assistance to this project, the most vulnerable – mothers and children ages 0-5 years old – will be ensured access to vital health and nutrition services which will help them develop fully later in life,” says Ambassador HAN Dong-Man, Korean envoy to the Philippines.

The support from KOICA amounts to US$6 million and targets 19 local government units in three provinces, namely Samar and Northern Samar in Region VIII and Zamboanga Del Norte in Region IX. Expected reach through the initiative will be 12,000 infants 0-5 months old, 36,000 6-23 months old – including children from poor families and children from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas – and 57,000 pregnant and lactating women. It also aims to improve the LGU’s policy, governance frameworks and service delivery systems and enhance the capacity of 1,370 nutrition and health personnel.

“We thank the Korean government for supporting the Filipino child’s right to survive and thrive. Supporting interventions at the local level is important to reach every vulnerable mother and child especially those who do not have access to essential services,” UNICEF Philippines Representative Lotta Sylwander says.

Technical support at the national level is expected to reach an estimated 14 million children under five years of age including acutely malnourished children, premature newborns, an estimated 3.5 million pregnant women, and 3 million lactating women in 17 regions across the country.

The project aims to: a) establish a more responsive enabling policy environment at the national and local level that supports the comprehensive approach to maternal, infant and child nutrition and health in the critical first 1,000 days window; b) strengthen systems for the delivery of quality and comprehensive nutrition and health services for the first 1,000 days provided to women, newborns and children; and c) improve knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnant women, mothers and caregivers in the 19 project areas on maternal and child nutrition and health.

Under-nutrition in the Philippines remains a serious problem. The damage to health, physical growth and brain development of children affected by chronic under-nutrition—stunting in the first two years—is often irreversible, impairing children for life and leaving them with lower chances of finishing school and becoming highly-productive adults. Stunting, iron and iodine deficiencies impact learning abilities and intelligence of children. Studies show that populations affected by iodine deficiency have 10 - 15 IQ points less than those not affected.

A joint research by UNICEF Philippines and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) revealed that every $1 (P53) invested in interventions to combat child malnutrition and accompanying problems can save around $12 (P639) in foregone earnings or health expenditures – equivalent to a 12:1 benefit-cost ratio.

The Kalusugan and Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act, more commonly known as First 1000 Days Law, was approved by the end of 2018 and heralds the beginning of more concerted efforts by the national and local government, donors, and civil society.

8990 Holdings, listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange under the symbol “HOUSE” and one of the fastest growing real estate developers in the Philippines, rounded up 2018 hitting its full-year revenue target of Php 11.5 billion. It is eyeing Php 13 billion for 2019. The company is also guiding a net income of Php 5.2 billion.

“We had a strong fourth quarter given the increased interest in our housing projects throughout the country. This means we will have another banner year as our unaudited revenues hit our target of Php 11.5 billion in 2018. This is already double of what we did a mere six years ago,” said 8990 Holdings president and chief executive officer Willie J. Uy.

In 2019, the company expects to grow revenues to Php 13 billion with more than half coming from its projects in Luzon—particularly from its largest project to date, Urban Deca Homes Manila in Tondo.

Situated in an 8.4-hectare property, Urban Deca Homes Manila is a 13-tower residential complex offering over 13,000 units with an estimated sales value of Php 20 billion. Targeting residents of Tondo and those living in the Port Area, Intramuros, Divisoria and the Camanava (Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela) area, Urban Deca Homes Manila addresses the housing needs in the most densely-populated area in Metro Manila.

According to Uy, “We have been in business for more than a decade. Our success in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao is testament to our belief that housing should be within reach of every Filipino. The market will always be receptive if you provide homes that are within secure communities and make it within reach.”

“Tondo is a good example. Urban Deca Homes Manila is the first large-scale development in the area. We provide Tondo residents and those living in nearby locations, who have been living with relatives or renting, a viable housing alternative in the area. With the completion of the 18,000-square meter Deca Mall, we will surely not only provide housing but a new kind of lifestyle for Tondo,” he added.

Deca Mall recently partnered with the SM Group, making SM Hypermarket as its anchor tenant. SM Hypermarket will occupy 3,073 square meters of the mall, offering a wide array of food and non-food products.

Buying a used laptop is a smart and practical move, especially when you want to save a little cash but still get a good deal. With so many used laptops being sold online, however, knowing which one to choose can be quite daunting.

“There is a huge market for secondhand gadgets, especially for laptops. Based on OLX’s Data Hub, the most searched gadget by our users is the laptop. About 40% of searches for computers are laptops,” says OLX Goods & Services head Rambo Joinani. “As long as one knows what to look for, buying a pre-owned laptop is a smart and economical option. We’d love to share some pointers to help our users find the best laptop that fits their needs.”

So before you close that deal on that pre-loved laptop you’re eyeing, read these 10 useful tips from OLX, the country’s leading classifieds platform:

1. Know your needs

Trim down your choices by identifying your specifications. Are you looking for a laptop that’s good for basic use like sending emails, web surfing, basic office functions, and picture sharing? Or will you be using it for intermediate applications like basic creative software and advanced office duties? Another possible use is for advanced functions like gaming, web hosting, or music/photo/video editing. Knowing what you will be using it for will help lead you to the best used laptop suited for your needs.

2. Do your research

Before making your purchase, make sure to read user reviews on different laptop brands and models. See what people are saying about brand performance over time. It also pays to do a background check on the sellers to make sure that they have a good history in the community.

3. Get to know the original price list for new laptops

Before purchasing a used laptop, make sure to compare the secondhand price with the brand-new price. You can start off your price survey on OLX, which has an extensive amount of listings of both brand-new and pre-owned laptops. Knowing and comparing the prices will help you make an informed decision whether you’re better off buying a used laptop or a brand-new one.

4. Check the specifications

Once you have made a shortlist of possible laptop units you want to buy, check the inclusions that the seller will be providing aside from just the unit. Make sure all the pertinent details of the laptop are made available to you. This includes the original software CD, recovery CD, drivers, backup media, and licenses of the software. Very important: Be sure to check if the preloading operating system is genuine.

5. Examine the ‘inside’ of the laptop

Ask the seller if it is possible to check the motherboard to test how responsive and fast the laptop is. Observe if it heats up fast or makes loud noises when you start it up.

6. Look at the physical condition

Many buyers wish to purchase used laptops that look brand-new and spotless. If the external appearance matter to you, you might want to check if there are any dents or cracks because these might lead to bigger problems for the used laptop in the long run.

7. Examine the laptop screen

Check the condition of the screen. It’s not worth the purchase if the screen flickers or has uneven brightness because it could mean there are loose connections that cannot be repaired.

8. Perform a thorough battery check

The great thing about laptops is that they can be used even when unplugged. Thus, its battery life is important. Most laptop batteries have a lifespan of three years, so if it’s a used laptop, it’s possible that its battery will have a limited standby time. Be sure to check this before making your purchase.

9. Inspect the ports and peripherals

Try out all the ports, headphone plugs, HDMI, SD card slots, CD/DVD drive, and other inputs, which are essential for an easy file transfer or other recreational purposes. These are attached to the motherboard and may get costly to replace.

10. Verify wireless connectivity

The value of a used laptop decreases if it can’t connect to WIFI. Before buying, make sure that it can connect to WIFI networks without hassle.

On the helm of being awarded as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Award by the Filipina Women’s Network, CEO and Founding President of Faith in God Ruby Pacis Montalbo Professional and Technical Services Corporation (FIGRPMPTSC) Ruby Canteras Pacis, receives another coveted recognition as one of the 2018 Ambassadors Choice Excellence Awardee honored by the Asia Pacific Council, World Council for Excellence Award Ministry and the ACSR Humanitarian Service Ministry.

These award-governing bodies recognize exemplary practitioners who made significant contributions to their respective fields of expertise. It is divided into three major divisions, namely Asia-Pacific, World Council and lastly, the ACSR Humanitarian Servant Ministry Council. Among the 300 nominations in the South & East Asia Pacific Region-Philippines, Pacis was also selected as one of the Top 25 recipients of the 2018 Most Outstanding Model Icon for Life Coach, as well as the Outstanding Asian Achiever Icon, Leadership Excellence Business Service Provider and Model Life Coach Practitioner.

Pacis was nominated by Asian Ambassador Dr. Sandy S. Montano.

“When I received the award, my initial reaction was I cried. Because this isn’t about popularity, it’s about how I recognize my Creator for giving me the chance to maximize my skills. It’s also a recognition of the things I’ve done in the past, which I did for the glory of the Lord,” says Pacis.

FIGRPMPTSC is an Independent subcontractor/contractor authorized and registered to provide Business Process Support and Services such as HR Services, Accounting Services, Process Audit Services, Messengerial Services, Hotel and Restaurant Management Services in various industries, Property Housekeeping and Rental Services, and Technical Support and Services.

Pacis continued, “This started as a single proprietorship company in 2003. I only had Php60,000 capital back then. From then on, I had no idea what happened next. It’s really the Lord who provided everything we needed.

“I just woke up one day and realized, ‘How did this happen? We have our own building and branches all over the country.’ If it’s not for the Lord, I couldn’t have done it by myself.”

FIGRPMPTSC currently holds office in Laguna, Pampanga, NCR, and Cebu. It is its sole responsibility to comply with all existing as well as future laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the employment of top caliber employees.

“Like many others, I faced a lot of challenges when we were just starting. I felt like I was in a bottle because doing a subcontracting business in the Philippines is not easy. I would say some of the players in this industry tend to take advantage of the opportunity to gain more from their employees.

“What I committed to the Lord is to make this company a cut above the rest and to be a company that will be righteous to its employees. I would say the biggest capitalization I have with FIG is my faith in God. With His will, I can do everything even though it seems impossible to the eyes of the people.

“I went through a lot of hardships but I would say a lot of these things were beyond my capacity. The Lord is our provider of strength.”

According to Dr. Rev. Bobby Misa Brimon, Chairman of the WCEA and ACS-HSM East Asia Region, it is through these virtues that their organization acknowledged Pacis; “Being an ambassador is about taking the lead in this nation and making herself available not only to her company but also to the people.

“We are giving this recognition not only for their accomplishments but also because they have their full heart in it. Of course, everybody deserves to be an ambassador with his/her own capacity because of the grace of the Lord.”

Incinerators that use the most innovative process called pyrolysis technology break
down large molecules of waste, produce no smoke, smell or loud noises,
and reduce carbon emission from waste transfer.

Proper solid waste management in the Philippines remains a serious problem. In the midst of the alarming increase of garbage Filipinos generate resulting in garbage-filled streets, rivers, and drainage as well as insufficient over-burdened landfills, the country is still searching for an effective solution to waste problem.

In an effort to reduce and eventually obliterate the worsening effects of the overwhelming increase of garbage on health and environment, the government, Specifically the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), is looking into smart alternatives with less environmental impact.

One such alternative is the use of incinerators. An incinerator is an equipment used for burning waste materials at high temperature until it is reduced to ash.

Depending on the type and capacity of waste, there are different kinds of incinerators: rotary kiln, which are mostly used in developed countries; grate incinerators, which use waste-to-energy technology; and liquid, gases and fumes incinerators, which are used for thermal destruction of gas and fumes and are not suitable for the incineration of solid waste.

In the Philippines, Clean air Act of 1999 banned the use of incinerator because it is believed to emit poisonous and toxic fumes. However, in 2002, DENR released a clarification on the incinerator ban in the country and wrote, “Section 20 does not absolutely prohibit incineration as a mode of waste disposal, rather only those burning process which emit poisonous and toxic fumes are banned.”

Incinerators convert municipal solid waste into a useful by-product. It uses a lot of processes to minimize the risk to health and environment. The most innovative process is the use of pyrolysis technology. Pyrolysis is coined from the Greek terms pyro or fire and -lysis or separating. It is the industrial process of breaking down large molecules of waste such as agricultural residues, scraps, tires, and non-recyclable materials into smaller molecules of gas, oil and carbon black. The common by-product of pyrolysis technology is ash which can be mixed with aggregates for construction purposes.

Many incinerators now have no smoke, no smell nor loud noises. If integrated with solid waste management, incinerators can reduce carbon emission from waste transfer, reduce cost of solid waste disposal and promote zero-waste-to-landfill.

Incinerators can be used in multiple, end-to-end solutions that provide immediate solution to complete sustainable solid waste management in the country.

Artist’s perspective of Parkway Corporate Center’s
combinable office units averaging 36 square meters.

The 32-storey Parkway Corporate Center is now opening its doors to investors who want to give their businesses the singular advantage of occupying a corporate space in an intelligent, green-oriented building at Filinvest City in Alabang.

For business owners, an office space which they can call their own signifies they have achieved a major corporate milestone. With its enviable location at the gateway of the garden central business district in the Metro South and state-of-the-art design features and amenities, Filinvest’s Parkway Corporate Center makes for an ideal office as it allows you to move up when you move in.

As an investor or entrepreneur, ownership lets you capitalize on your asset, as opposed to merely being a tenant. Ownership of your office space gives you the freedom to fit out and customize your unit’s amenities, depending on your business operation’s needs and specifications. Ownership also offers long-term financial advantages and investment potentials, including tax savings and better cash flow management.

With a long-term fixed-rate mortgage, you can anticipate your monthly expenditures without fear of annual rent increases or, worse, lease expiration. You continue your operations worry-free.

Parkway Corporate Center’s impressive building features and amenities are bound to attract top tenants, giving you utmost peace of mind knowing that you are dealing with reputable locators. You acquire an office unit at a low cost. Typically, you can also demand higher rent that creates increased profits. And as landbank options in major central business districts (CBDs) decrease, and with the shortage of office spaces in Metro Manila, capital values and rents are experiencing an upsurge, with multinational tenants seeking longer lease terms for up to five to 10 years, allowing for longevity of guaranteed income and the assurance of steady and continuous returns.

With Parkway Corporate Center as your business address, you get outstanding building characteristics. To best suit your corporate needs, it employs intelligent space planning with flexible and combinable office units averaging 36 square meters. Whole floor options for larger companies are available.

Modern building facilities include six high-speed elevators, 24-hour security with CCTV cameras in strategic areas, 100 percent back-up power and advanced fiber optic backbone. Other exceptional amenities include an elegant main lobby, a retail plaza at the ground floor, a fully-equipped business center for meetings and other small business functions, podium deck garden, balconies on every five levels, plus eight levels of secured parking.

In keeping with Parkway Corporate Center’s green orientation, its glass curtain wall is double-glazed with a low e-coating to reduce heat and UV (ultra-violet) radiation, reducing cost while raising energy efficiency and sustainability.

Having your business offices in Filinvest City in Alabang gives you great advantages with its increasing land values, allowing for continuous growth. Alabang also has a strong client base, enabling you to tap new markets and gain more customers, and a talented labor pool, making businesses thrive even further.

Additionally, Filinvest City puts you at a prime, strategic, and prestigious setting where a full spectrum of offerings—from premium lifestyle and retail facilities to one-of-a-kind residential concepts—are at hand for a true genuine work-live-play environment.

You also get to enjoy greater accessibility as Filinvest City has an efficient public transportation hub South Station and easily connects to the North and CALABARZON area through Skyway, South Luzon Expressway and Daang Hari Road. Ninoy Aquino International Airport is just ten kilometers away.

Owning an office space at Parkway Corporate Center at the premier CBD in the south, Filinvest City, truly has numerous benefits.
