Subhead: With people and culture at the heart of its operations, GoTyme Bank offers thoughtful leave benefits for moms returning to work, pet owners, and LGBTQ adoptive parents making it the ideal workplace post pandemic.

GoTyme Bank is a young startup, but it is positioned to establish a name for itself in the Philippine fintech industry. A partnership between the Gokongwei Group and Singapore-based digital banking group Tyme, it recognizes the crucial role culture plays in driving its success as it navigates a fast-paced startup environment.

With more jobseekers looking at not just dynamic work environments, but useful leave benefits and flexible work arrangements as well, GoTyme Bank is heeding the call with unique and thoughtful offerings for its employees. On the hunt for a new job? Read on to learn what makes GoTyme Bank an ideal workplace.

  1. Matching hearts

Crissy Rollan, Chief People and Culture Officer at GoTyme Bank, has been at the helm of the bank’s recruitment activities since it started its operations in 2021. Under her leadership, GoTyme Bank has crafted its culture and values rooted in empowerment, transparency, imagination, grit, and empathy.

More than filling job openings purely based on qualifications, GoTyme Bank is also committed to growing with its employees.

“It is very easy to categorize people based on the skillset they bring or the match according to the job description,” Crissy says. “At GoTyme Bank, it is never enough that you are a technical rockstar—your passion and your heart matters. We look for people who have the right heart and are willing to invest in their future—to grow into the role and in the company.”

  1. Longer maternity and paternity leaves

As a mom herself, one of the things Crissy is most passionate about is making GoTyme Bank a platform for opportunities, especially for mothers returning to work.

“It’s every mother’s dilemma: a safe delivery, keeping the baby healthy, breastfeeding, and looking after the baby once the maternity leave is over,” Crissy points out. “For some, they decide to take a year or two off.”

At GoTyme Bank, moms and dads of newborns can enjoy extended leaves to attend to their child’s needs.

“We recognize that as a mom, sometimes the hardest part is to think about the span of time,” Crissy shares. “This is why at GoTyme Bank, we have an extension of two weeks’ maternal leave, and for dads, an extension of seven days’ paternity leave.”

  1. Leave benefits for LGBTQ adoptive parents and pet owners

Taking pride in being a highly inclusive company, GoTyme Bank’s definition of parents encompasses adoptive parents—including those belonging to the LGBTQ community and domestic partnership—with an adoption leave of 60 days. Meanwhile, great news as well to fur moms and fur dads, as they get to enjoy this benefit too, via the company’s “furternity” leave.

Therese Adoremos, a project manager at GoTyme Bank one of the company’s early joiners, shares what she loves about the unique benefit.

“I want to have a dog one day, so it’s the cutest thing ever to know that Go Tyme Bank has a furternity leave I could use when that time comes,” she says.

Omaima Mahmoud, Head of Sales and Transactions at GoTyme Bank, finds the furternity leave very convenient as she considers her pets as her family members. Availing the benefit is straightforward, as well.

“GoTyme Bank includes it in our employee portal and it’s accessible just like any other leave credits,” she explains. “Seeing that GoTyme values our fur children just as much as we do really tells me that GoTyme cares about our wellbeing not just at work, but also in our personal lives. Our fur babies recently had fur babies of their own and it meant a lot to be there for them and know that my company does not consider this a silly thing at all.”

  1. Medical and other benefits

Apart from the standard HMO from Day 1 for employees and their dependents, GoTyme Bank employees also enjoy insurance coverage including work from home benefits.

"We are committed to give our GoTymers the best care—on top of the standard health benefits, we have regular career and life coaching sessions, social groups to connect people with common interests, and soon, we’ll also be launching a mental health program to give access to professional assistance."

Kevin Cupat, a member of Go Tyme Bank’s IT team who recently got engaged, enjoys the flexibility of having a hybrid work setup, which gives him a better sense of work-life integration. He also looks forward to availing of benefits such as his birthday leave, Zumba and yoga via the wellness program, and another exciting perk: owning a laptop after a three-year residency within the company.

  1. Sense of community

At GoTyme Bank, employees are treated as part of a single community. “A huge part of our talent strategy is to ensure an amazing employee journey; transparency starts at a recruitment stage,” Crissy remarks. “As a bank, we give a lot of importance to customer experience and this also translates to our internal customers: our GoTymers! You are always home in GoTyme!”

“I appreciate that you can legitimately see everyone embody the values upheld in GoTyme Bank and that everyone benefits from it,” shares project manager Therese. “I’ve personally found my work more rewarding and fulfilling because I actually care about the success of the company brought about by every single member of the GoTyme Bank team.”

Kevin adds, “I really appreciate the trust and transparency amongst my superiors and peers. There is good collaboration. This is very important because it facilitates clear and effective communication. These are good motivators and can result to increased productivity.”

  1. Fun interactions through a metaverse office

With hybrid work setups becoming the norm, GoTyme Bank finds ways to continuously drive a highly engaged organization, with the recent launch of its metaverse office, a virtual space which allows workers to interact with one another remotely anytime, anywhere.

In the simulated workspace—complete with a board room and personal spaces—employees can hold meetings, ride around on a bike, run on a track field, or even dance around the office with confetti. It’s inspired by GoTyme Bank’s actual office, which is set to be turned over this August.

“One of the great lessons the pandemic taught us is to always be evolving,” Crissy notes. “With the metaverse, it is not just about staying connected, but providing a unique platform for everyone to be more expressive and creative. It also allows the more introverted people to express themselves. It’s about versatility to address a diverse organization.”

  1. Happy employees

On top of fostering employee wellness, GoTyme Bank’s success shows in how satisfied its employees are. In its first six months, it’s already achieved a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 67. NPS is a business metric used to gauge how likely an individual is willing to recommend a brand to a friend or colleague. A 67 percent NPS means the company is performing well and has a lot of happy employees or customers.

With its commitment to taking care of its employees and customers, GoTyme Bank is gearing up to revolutionize banking in the Philippines as it goes live in Q3 2022. Soon, you can open an account in under five minutes through digital kiosks and avail banking products and services such as better bank transfers, shopping rewards, interest savings, trading, investing and customer service.

Over 700 participants mostly composed PRC-registered salespersons nationwide will convene in Cebu City for the first ever Real Estate Salespersons Congress on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022.

The congress, initiated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)- registered Accredited Real Estate Salespersons in the Philippines (ACRES Philippines), will gather industry practitioners in the field of real estate selling to formally introduce ACRES Philippines and its Vision and Mission; recognize its interim officers nationwide; charter members and raise awareness and tackle current concerns in real estate selling.

ACRES is the country’s first and largest organization for accredited real estate sales persons

ACRES is the country’s first and largest organization of accredited real estate salespersons. Founded in 2021, it supports the endeavors of salespersons in furthering their learnings, ethical standards, protection of their rights to free and fair practice, upliftment of their well-being, and due representation and inclusion on matters of their trade and prosperity. At present the association has already set up nationwide chapters with interim officers in Metro Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Bicol, Sorsogon, Legaspi, Pampanga, Palawan, Tacloban, Ormoc, Bohol, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Kabankalan, Iloilo, Roxas, Aklan, Calbayog, Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Northern Cebu, Southern Cebu, Talisay, Mandaue, Catbalogan, Davao, General Santos, Caraga, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Surigao, Ozamis, Dipolog, Pagadian, Digos, Iligan and Gingoog.

These interim officers will take oath during the congress. Cebu was picked as the host for this year’s Congress to showcase the city’s progressive real estate industry whose vibrance could only be kept and achieved by proactive industry practitioners, including real estate salespersons.

According to Anthony Gerard Leuterio, president of A Better Real Estate Philippines (ABREP), the advisory group of ACRES, the formation of ACRES came timely as the real estate sector experiences a rebound from the economic stresses brought about by Covid-19 pandemic. He said unifying all the salespersons involved in real estate will further advance the country’s real estate sector and make it one of the strongest economic pillars amid the headwinds. “Since real estate is a selling business, we also need to get the salespersons onboard and actively involved them in advancing the sector alongside the brokers,” he said. Leuterio stressed that since real estate salespersons are significant contributors in the continued expansion of the sector, they must be well represented. “These practitioners need to have a voice too, especially when policies and laws are crafted. We need to include them so we could really a ‘Better Real Estate’,” he said.

Real estate salespersons comprise the biggest number of professionals in the real estate service. Moreover, ACRES seeks to work harmoniously and collaboratively with the professionals in the real estate service, regulatory agencies, real estate organizations, property companies, policy makers and advocacy groups. Leuterio said the association is keen to work with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) so it can participate on campaigns against illegal salespersons and illegal developers. The group also wants to work with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to promote accreditation to all salespersons involved in real estate selling activities.

Bikers from Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac and nearby provinces pedaled along the route traversed by the country’s heroes in a fun ride for a cause dubbed, “Ride for Valor.”

The “Ride for Valor” a non-competitive 160 kilometers long bike ride raised funds to save our heroes’ historical markers so that we may remember their sacrifice. The funds will be turned over to the Filipino-American Memorial Endowment (FAME) a non-government organization that maintains the kilometer markers of the Bataan Death March from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac.

In the past, Bataan Death March markers had been destroyed, uprooted, and neglected due to drainage and other road projects. Ten (10) Death March historical markers in Mariveles, and four (4) in Limay, Bataan have to be relocated soon due to road widening and other repairs.

The Death March markers serve as a reminder of the route taken by Filipino soldiers who defended the country against Japanese forces during World War II some 80 years ago. About 10,000 brave soldiers died along the route; many of the bodies were never identified or recovered.

The ride is part of the 30th anniversary of the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB). PVB is a commercial bank owned by World War II veterans and their families. As part of its charter, PVB allocates 20% of its annual net income for the benefit of its shareholders.

Around 80,000 Filipino and American soldiers and prisoners of war were forced by the Japanese military to march 69 miles from Bataan to Tarlac during World War II. Only some 54,000 persons reached the camp, and around 20,000 died due to starvation, dehydration, diseases, and the brutality of Japanese captors.

The country’s schools have been closed at all levels since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As schools prepare to gradually reopen soon, the country’s education system is facing a major challenge on how to manage the transition and reopen safely amid risk brought about by the continuing pandemic. Having said that, the education sector is tackling this challenge in a calculated manner for the safety of all stakeholders.

Learning from experience

The Rotary Club of Greenfield District on its kick-off activity brings top education leaders into a virtual discussion to share their experiences and learnings of managing their schools at the height of the pandemic and their plans on how to navigate from online education back to a “new normal” now that the schools are reopening this August.

The Rotary Club of Greenfield District adapted AHEAD Education’s Leadership Strategies for School Managers (LESSM) as one of its core services and hosted the virtual discussion entitled “Educators in Action: Adapting to the new culture of education.”

Key education leaders

The virtual discussion was led by Br. Bernard S. Oca, FSC, President of De La Salle University, Dr. Elena E. Pernia, PhD, Vice-President of Public Affairs of the University of the Philippines, Prof. Cheryl R. Peralta, DRPH, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Santo Tomas, Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog, President of University of Asia and the Pacific, and Raphael A. Guerrero, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Science and Engineering of Ateneo de Manila University.

The discussion was moderated by Ms. Rossana Llenado, President and Founder of AHEAD Education, and the Rotary Club of Greenfield District’s President.

Epilogue

“The entire education sector faced an unprecedented major crisis. With COVID-19 making it downright dangerous for students to go to school at the height of the pandemic now transitioning from online education back to face-to-face classes is both imminent and imperative,” said Rossana Llenado.

As schools begin to reopen, parents, students, teachers, and school personnel are still advised to take proper precautions during face-to-face classes as well as outside the classrooms to mitigate COVID-19 infection.

Released under Sony Music, their new single “The Ones We Once Loved” is a quietly startling confessional that sounds emotionally impactful even in its apparent weightlessness. Written by Ben&Ben’s very own Paolo Benjamin, the track builds its staircase to somewhere personal and intimate, offering a unique perspective on love, forgiveness, and breakup.

“It’s a song that owns up to one’s faults, makes proper apologies, but also expresses hurt, as breakups are often two-way things,” says the band in an official statement. “It’s also one of the hardest songs we’ve written, because it requires the writer to forgive himself for his past and own up to his faults and mistakes. The painstaking process towards that state, the cycles of anxiety and catharsis that the writer went through, and the eventual expression of all of that in the form of this song, as an encapsulation of such a heavy journey, is what makes this song stand out among our other songs.”

Produced by Johnoy Danao and Jean Paul Verona, the song takes a deceptively stripped-down approach in terms of musicality, but careful not to lose the earnestness that defined their recent hits. According to the folk-pop outfit, they wanted to keep the arrangement as bare and as transparent as possible while still maintaining a certain depth, weight, and storytelling within instrumentation.

“Supporting the vocals is the staple piano sound, as one would hear when being sung the humblest and sincerest of songs, slowly followed by more and more melodic instruments as the singer opens up and exposes vulnerability,” the band explains the sonic motif behind the release. “At the end of the day, we wanted to make an arrangement that would provide no barrier to taking in each meaning of every word of a song that has so much to say.”

Backed by rich but sparsely layered instrumentation, the song, particularly its chorus, captures “what so many of us are often too afraid or unprepared to say after a difficult breakup.” Hoping that listeners would take responsibility in making amends with one’s self, and the person on the other end of the grieving process, the band shares, “We are hoping that this song somehow helps people bridge that gap and feel the importance of really letting go through a multi-faceted forgiveness: one of the other, and of the self.”

“The Ones We Once Loved” serves as Ben&Ben’s official single in support of their Philippine send-off concert and North America/Canada Tour in 2022. It also marks their first collaboration with globally renowned photographer Geloy Concepcion, whose work was recently featured in Vogue Magazine, and other notable publications and exhibits worldwide.

“We’ve always wanted to do a collaboration with Geloy Concepcion as most of the band members look up to him, that when we realized he would be the perfect artist to work with for The Ones We Once Loved, we instantly took a chance and set a meeting up with him,” Ben&Ben shares. “In Geloy’s current project ‘Things You Wanted To Say But Never Did’ we saw how resonant and resemblant his messaging was to The Ones We Once Loved and that he may be the best artist to communicate the song’s message. Geloy’s eye and his way of introducing a space to let out feelings and emotions was one we wanted to emulate in this campaign—a space where people sit safely and quietly with their feelings.”

Earlier this week, Ben&Ben encouraged their fans to use the hashtags #BenandBen #BenandBenTOWOL #TOWOL and #TheOnesWeOnceLoved as part of its Twitter activation campaign promoting the international release of “The Ones We Once Loved.” The hashtags revealed official Ben&Ben Twitter emojis, and unlocked a special preview of the song last August 24, 2022.

Ben&Ben’s “The Ones We Once Loved” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Over the past few years, the My City, My SM series has showcased the different facets of our countrys rich culture our tourist attractions, our cuisine, our artisan crafts, and most recently, our visual arts.

Beginning this August, our cultural journey takes us to another exciting route with the premiere launching of My City, My SM, My Music at The Block at SM City North EDSA.

A joint project of SM, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Filipino Heritage Festival, WCOPA, and the Philippine Star, with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and Tahanan Books, My City, My SM, My Music is a celebration of Philippine performing arts music, dance, and theatre.

It aims to bring music and people together by showcasing indigenous, folk classical, and contemporary artistry in a roadshow around the SM Supermalls. Advocating music for all, we are working with communities to mount shows, exhibits, workshops, and contests in key cities around the Philippines.

But why music? While every country has its own language theres only one language we can understand: the language of music. Music plays a very important role in bringing people together because it connects people in ways no other medium can.

More than that, it is said that Filipinos are born to sing, dance, and perform. Beyond the melodies of everyday life, singing is our way of celebrating. Indigenous groups continue to practice inherited music like songs for work, rituals, festivals, mourning, and courting. And today, music continues to move us, inspire us, and join our hearts in song.

Like art, music has the power to connect and bring people together, says Metropolitan Museum of Manila President Tina Colayco, who has collaborated with SM on many cultural projects. I think that every performance and every art exhibition is a celebration. With that, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila is very honored to continue again another campaign with SM for My City, My SM, My Music. We are proud, happy, and inspired to be able to participate in this kind of holistic approach where music, dance, and theater all come together for a different kind of experience.

For Filipino Heritage Festival President Armita Rufino, who has worked with SM for many years to bring our rich culture to the malls. “ this project of SM is going to be very informative for us who love music and who love dance.

Music is the language of the soul, says Annie Mercado, Creative Director of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) Team Philippines, which has brought much honor to the Philippines since it joined the prestigious annual competition in 2005. It connects hearts. It speaks to you. It knows no boundaries, religion, ethnicity, culture, or social class. I am happy that SM has given recognition to the performing arts and music, the recognition it rightly deserves.

More than that, music is a gift from God, adds Gerry Mercado National Director for WCOPA Team Philippines, and we feel very blessed that through this project, Filipinos will be able to showcase their God given talents all over the country.” Team Philippines dazzled the world by winning a total of 390 medals, including 136 golds, in the 23rd Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in 2019 in Long Beach, California. This is quite a feat as WCOPA is often cited as the official Talent Olympics, and the only event of its kind in the Hollywood area, the entertainment capital of the world.

For National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) President, Dr. Renato Lucas, who is also a cellist and conductor, music expresses the unspeakable, describes the undemonstrable, and it reminds us of the memorable. Our music and our performing arts is a living monument of what we were, what we are, and what we could be.

Since 1973, NAMCYA has been a driving force in discovering major music talents from all over the country in the fields of choral singing, piano, chamber music, family ensemble, and indigenous instruments. Some of the countrys brilliant artists like pianists Cecile Licad and Raul Sunico, Violinists Julian Quirit and Joseph Esmilla, tenor Noel Velasco, soprano Andion Fernandez, the UP Singing Ambassadors, the Loboc Childrens Choir and the University of Mindanao Chorale are among its distinguished winners.

The Philippine Star has been all the way with SM in its My City, My SM series ever since its first incarnation, says Philippine Star EVP for Sales and Marketing Lucien Dy Tioco. I think this edition is really exciting because music covers everybody and it celebrates the culture of every region. With our collaboration, we will be able to bring Philippine performing arts more to the mainstream.

Mallgoers will have the rare opportunity to have a glimpse of the life and work of National Artist for Music Dr. Ramon Pagayon Santos during the premier of My City, My SM, My Music event at SM City North EDSA from August 27 to 31. The award winning PWU JASMS Manila Rondalla under Noli DO. Rodriguez will be performing his compositions during the event launch; as will the amazing WCOPA Team Philippines medalists who have given us much honor in the prestigious international competition.

My City, My SM, My Music is a take-off from the My City, My SM campaign which promotes tourism; My City, My SM, My Cuisine, which highlights family heirloom recipes in the different regions; and My City, My SM, My Crafts, which celebrates traditional arts and modern Philippine design. Most recently, My City, My SM, My Art was a celebration of Philippine visual arts painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and filmmaking.

My City, My SM, My Musics next stop will be at SM City Olongapo Central.
