 Dakasi Tea
Mall goers will have more fun shopping as the most awaited Milk Tea hotspot, Dakasi surely delights Milk tea lovers as they recently opened their newest store last week at SM City San Jose del Monte.

Like the other milk tea chains, Dakasi will certainly satisfy your milk tea craving especially when you like it to be even creamier. This international milk tea brand offers many and different flavors made out of natural and fresh ingredients.

Dakasi at UGF of SM City San Jose del Monte

The winning element of one of their must try milk tea, the Okinawa Milk Tea which uses roasted brown sugar rather than regular syrup, is its thick and creamy froth. This appears to be both on top and as a thick layer at the bottom of your drink, so you get a rich and milky flavor through every sip.

Other signature favorites are Dakasi Bubble Milk Tea which is the most basic milk tea that tastes like a real tea with milk and with free pearls in it that is chewy and sweet, and the Oreo Milk Tea that taste like oreo cake in liquid form, as the oreo is well blended that makes it unique compared to other oreo milk teas.

Dakasi Bubble Milk Tea

While you cannot adjust the sweetness of your drink, you can still get that distinctive unpretentious flavor as they blend the drinks with just the right amount of taste.

Dakasi Creme Chocolate

Aside from their classics, Dakasi also offers out-of-the-box flavors like a Halo Halo Milk Tea, and snacks like nachos and quesadillas. Have you tried Dakasi Milk Tea? Try it now and share it with your friends. Visit Dakasi Milk Tea at the Upper Ground Level of SM City San Jose del Monte.

Ballet Manila closes 23rd performance season with DEUX

After a spectacular 23rd performance season, Ballet Manila is set to close its curtains with Deux, a double header that gracefully combines classical and contemporary ballet. The show will be held at the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex on March 2 and 9 at 6PM and March 3 and 10 at 3PM.

The first chapter of the show will open with classical vignettes. It will highlight “Les Sylphides,” also known as “Chopiniana” in Russia, a romantic dreamy white ballet that depicts a lone danseur (The Poet) surrounded by his muses – white-clad sylphs or air spirits, dancing in the moonlight. While there is no plot, its lingering music by Frederic Chopin and lyrical choreography by Michael Fokine evoke the illusion of ethereal weightlessness which characterized the romantic era of ballet where technique is the focal point, especially the intricate pointe work of ballerinas.

From this dreamy ambiance, the audience will be transported to the second chapter filled with contemporary numbers, and exhilarating rock and roll beats in the world premiere of Martin Lawrance’s The Winding Road set to the legendary music of The Beatles. The young or old will surely connect to the music and lyrics of I Saw Her Standing There, Here, There and Everywhere, Something, The Long and Winding Road, She Loves You, and many more!

“It has been a very exciting and rewarding 23rd season for Ballet Manila. It kicked-off with electrifying productions that formed part of our “Tour de Force” and now we’re poised to close it with Deux,” says Ballet Manila CEO and Artistic Director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde. “We thank our audiences for their continued patronage and support and we hope to see you all again when the curtains rise for our 24thseason.”

Siargao surfers win Coca-Cola Barkada Award for instilling value of education, environmental protection

The Sun Crew, represented by co-founder and manager, Wemar Bonono, receives multiple awards as main winner and the Coke Barkada Awardee at the 16th Ten Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) Awards.

Siargao has witnessed a major spike in tourism in recent years because of avid Filipino and foreign surfers flocking to the surfing capital. Because of this, many local children have also developed a passion for the water sport. Seeing this desire among the local youth, a group of dedicated individuals were inspired to put up the Sun Crew, using surfing as a tool to make a positive change in the lives of the island’s locals.

At the 16th Ten Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) Awards, the Sun Crew was recognized as one of the main winners and was honored with the Coke Barkada Award for its innovative programs that have empowered local children and communities to build a brighter future and play a key role in protecting the environment.
Coca-Cola Foundation president, Cecile Alcantara, awards the special Coke Barkada Award to Sun Crew co-founder and manager, Wemar Bonono, for the Sun Crew’s initiatives on education and environmental protection.

Wemar Bonono, Sun Crew manager and co-founder, shared that his inspiration behind establishing the organization was to help the local children, especially because of his own experiences growing up in the island. At 14, Wemar dropped out of school and decided to work as a surfing instructor to provide for his family.

“Actually, noong bata pa ‘ko hindi ako nag-e-eskwela kasi sobrang hirap ng buhay noon kasi wala pang tourists. Tapos ‘yung mga bata, ayaw ko rin na matulad sa akin. Marami silang nagtatanong kung pwede ba silang sumali at sabi ko ‘You’re welcome to join!’ Hindi kami namimili, basta nag-e-eskwela lang, ‘wag nila kalimutan yung pag-aaral, ‘yun ang importante,” shared Bonono.

To improve the children’s school attendance and to provide them with skills that will alleviate them from poverty, the Sun Crew started the Smart Sustainable Surfers (SSS) program where children earn Surfer Points for attending school and participating in other programs in exchange for surfboard use and surfing lessons. The SSS program resulted in a 100% increase in school attendance, with students attending 4 to 5 times a week.

Aside from motivating students to attend school; one of the main thrusts of Sun Crew is to make the children and the local community the custodians of the island’s environment. To address the increasing waste that is produced with rising tourist arrivals, Sun Crew conducts weekly beach clean-ups with the help of the Smart Surfers, locals, and volunteers; collects and segregates the waste of the barangay; and holds eco-bricking and up-cycling sessions.
The twenty TAYO Awards finalists witness the fruits of their labor at the 16th awarding ceremony.

With its goal of creating a sustainable and waste-free Siargao and uplifting local communities through education, the Sun Crew best embodies the Coca-Cola company values and is aligned with the company’s vision of a World Without Waste. In January 2018, Coca-Cola announced its commitment to collect and recycle one bottle for each that it sells globally by 2030 and the company continues to work towards this goal.

Coca-Cola has been a proud partner of the TAYO Awards Foundation, Inc. and continues to recognize outstanding youth organizations that are building a better Philippines through innovative programs.
The top ten accomplished youth organizations and the esteemed board of judges share the stage at the 16th TAYO awards.

“Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines and TAYO go a long way. Our partnership began in 2005 through the Coke Barkada Award, a special recognition given to the TAYO finalist that shares our passion to improve wellbeing of communities with projects that are aligned with Coca-Cola’s sustainability priorities. We are grateful for this opportunity to stay connected to the youth through the TAYO awards,” shared Coca-Cola Foundation president Cecile Alcantara.

The other 16th TAYO Awardees were AQILAH (Marawi City), Association of Young Environmental Journalists (Dumaguete City), Center for Sustainability Philippines, Inc. (Puerto Princesa City), Cuartero National High School Taliamba Ensemble, FLMIS YES – O (Iligan City), MIMAROPA Young Leaders (Oriental Mindoro), Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (Lapu-Lapu City), Team BakUNAWA (Iloilo City), and Tuklas Katutubo – Upper Lumabat Chapter.

8990 announces P2 billion share buyback program

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

8990 Holdings, listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange under the symbol “HOUSE” and one of the fastest growing real estate developers in the Philippines, announced that its board of directors approved a P2 billion share buyback program that excludes the company’s majority shareholders from participating in the program.

“Our share buyback program reflects the board’s confidence in our financial performance and commitment to increasing shareholder value while maintaining the liquidity of 8990’s stock in the market as well as public ownership requirements,” said 8990 Holdings president and chief executive officer Willie J. Uy. “The exclusion of shareholders with controlling stakes in the company underlines 8990’s commitment to providing true shareholder value.”

8990’s board of directors authorized the repurchase of up to P2 billion of the company’s common stock. The purchases may be up to 18 months from the approval unless the period is otherwise shortened by the board of directors. The purchases will depend on market conditions and subject to regulatory considerations. Controlling shareholders such as iHoldings and Kwantlen Development Corporation, which own a combined 61.88 percent stake in 8990 Holdings, voluntarily offered not to participate in the repurchase program as an act of good faith to its existing shareholders.

Under the program, share buyback transactions will be triggered in cases the company feels the shares are “substantially undervalued,” there is high share price volatility or that the buyback would enhance shareholder value.

“We plan to repurchase shares using cash and book as treasury. We assure our shareholders that the implementation of the program will not affect any of 8990’s prospective and existing projects and investments,” noted Uy.

8990 aims to be one of the Philippines’ top real estate developers. Its landbank of close to 540 hectares is projected to deliver approximately P154 billion in sales in the next eight to ten years.

For 2019, 8990 is guiding a 17 percent year-on-year growth on its topline from P11.5 billion to P13.5 billion by the end of the year.

8990 Holdings, through its DECA brand, has completed more than 50,000 units over the past 14 years nationwide. Its projects in Luzon, particularly Urban Deca Homes Manila in Tondo, is expected to generate close to 50 percent of 8990’s 2019 revenue target of P13.5 billion which is seen to translate to P5.2 billion in net income.

JUXTA:POSITION; Carved Wooden figures Exemplifying Aesthetics of Reduction

For the first time in the Philippines, an impressive collection of traditional Cordillera pieces will be seen in public alongside artworks by 20th and 21st-‐century Filipino abstract artists.

Owned by Hong Kong-‐based AsianArt:Future (AA:F), which is chaired by Swiss Martin Kurer, some of the collection will be on display at 1335 Mabini in Karrivin Plaza, Pasong Tamo Extension, Makati, from February 16 to March 2, 2019.

Aptly titled “JUXTA:POSITION”, the exhibition comes as a result of Kurer’s particular interest in the universal and widespread use of the aesthetics of reduction, something present he says in the carved wooden figures or bulul, which are closely associated with the Ifugao peoples of Northern Luzon.

A three-‐part book, JUXTA:POSITION (The Aesthetics of Reduction), will be made available to the public. In it, Kurer goes into greater detail on the aestheticism of the carvings of the Cordillera peoples, which he says can also be perceived and described utilizing an artistic vocabulary similar to the one of the Abstract Art movement. The second and third parts highlight the bululs, boxes, kinahu, and spoons of the Cordillera peoples, mostly from the 19th century and earlier, and a number of abstract paintings from Filipino artists, as photographed by At Maculangan of Pioneer Studios, Manila.

Similar exhibitions have been done before by the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1988 and accompanied by William Rubin’s catalogue “The Primitivism of Modern Art”, and in 2009 at Fondation Beyeler in Riehen/Basel titled “Visual Encounters, Africa, Oceanic, and Modern Art”, which showed tribal masterpieces alongside works of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Vassily Kandisnky, Rousseau, Constantin Brancusi, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, and Mark Rothko.

More recently, the exhibition of Les Collections Barbier-‐Muller “100 Years of Passion” showed tribal art pieces from Africa and Oceania in the context of contemporary art of Baselitz, Jeff Koons, and others.

“I am not looking at the use of these aesthetic principles from a scholarly point of view,” Kurer says. “Rather, I look at pieces of art from different backgrounds and periods, and attempt to search some aesthetic interaction or connection among them.”

Each bulul, a box or bowl from AsianArt:Future’s collection, most of which were gathered from old collections, assembled in the last century, will be shown with a corresponding artwork from José Joya, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, H.R. Ocampo, Lee Aguinaldo, Cesar Legaspi, Arturo Luz, Fernando Zóbel, Lao Lianben, and Gus Albor, who created a painting specifically for the exhibition.

Kurer invites the audience to look at the partnered pieces and perhaps spark a dialogue on the aesthetic vocabulary of the two genres of artistic creation, which, on the face of it, may not have much in common.

Yet, through the simplicity, directness, discipline, the reduction to the essence, understatement, and the ability to show a hidden reality, it does according to Kurer.

This approach, Kurer adds, is not to subordinate traditional Cordillera art to the viewpoint of “modern” or “fine” art point of view but to allow both sources to be looked at on the same level.

“That also means to avoid looking, in the traditional approach, at the Cordillera pieces shown from the perspective of their anthropological, ceremonial, and functional background and use,” Kurer says. “What the exhibition and juxtaposition focuses on is the artistic implementation of the carver’s dealings with the spiritual world in their natural environment, and the search for the unconscious, and how it co-‐relates or connects with the same search for aesthetics of their modern artistic counterparts.”

In the January/February 2017 edition of Asian Art Magazine, AsianArt: Future published an article that looks in detail into the art of the Cordilleras people and their counterparts around the globe. The write up points out that pieces they have created match the quality of the pieces of African and Oceanic tribal art. Kurer also published a book titled Simplicity.Ifugao Sculpture.Power (Hong Kong University Press/Columbia University Press).

As a collector, Kurer remains fascinated by the fact that artists from different continents, with very distinct cultural heritages, and from very different epochs, could end up employing—or be perceived to be employing—very similar aesthetic approaches and furthering this dialogue is what he hopes the exhibition will achieve.

Cebuana Lhuillier, the Philippines' largest microfinancial services provider, won once again the distinction of being the 'Best of the Best' at the recently concluded 2018 International Service Excellence Awards (ISEA) by the Customer Service Institute of America (CSIA). The award cemented the company’s legacy as a global leader in service experience.

"To receive this award for the second time validates the positive results of our tireless efforts to continuously improve and provide only the best customer experience to every client we serve," said Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier. The well-respected Filipino businessman and philanthropist added, "On behalf of the company, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to CSIA for recognizing Cebuana Lhuillier once again as a pillar of excellence in quality customer service. We will continue to find new and innovative ways to offer products and services that are more accessible and relevant to our patrons and that adhere to international customer service standards."

CSIA Managing Director Christine Churchill noted that the winners of this year's ISEA are organizations and individuals that are committed to service excellence by using a brilliant combination of their people and cutting edge technology to enhance their client experiences.

"The 2018 awards race was absolutely outstanding! The calibre of entries and variety of industries represented were the most to date," added Churchill who is also the vice president of the International Council of Customer Service Organizations (ICCSO). "It is exciting to see the great strides these organizations and leaders are taking."

ISEA adheres to the International Customer Service Standard (ICSS), which provides a comprehensive and practical framework to assist organizations in delivering consistently high levels of service. This standard, based on the balanced scorecard methodology, reviews organizations to determine if the customer is the focus of the business and how that is supported through culture, processes, procedures, training, hiring practices, and daily actions.

It was in 2016 when Cebuana Lhuillier bagged its first "Best of the Best" award. In the same year, the company also secured its re-certified ICSS Gold status and achieved an overall average score of 8.70, the highest achieved by an organization, for the second year in a row.

Thai Getaways For Starters: A Festival To Experience For Every Season

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Manila, Philippines – Some places appeal best to travelers at certain times of the year. Some destinations, however, never run out of attractions whatever the time or season of the year it is. In Thailand, for instance, there’s always a time and place where you can immerse yourself in a fusion of sights, sounds, and experiences. And where else can you best experience these feasts for the senses aside from Thai festivals?

Whether you’re headed for a summer adventure or a year-end retreat, there’s a festival in any corner where you can experience the best of Thailand’s people, culture, and way life. Festivals combine the best of Thailand’s arts, music, cuisine, hospitality, and other aspects of everyday life to give each traveler a full experience of the ‘Land of Smiles.’

If you plan to visit, Thailand this year, here are five must-experience festivals that will offer you a glimpse of the Southeast Asian kingdom’s long history and vibrant culture:

Pattaya International Music Festival (March 14-16, 2019)

When this international music festival starts swinging, pop, rock, hip-hop and R’n'B artists from Thailand and around the world perform for celebrating crowds at the stretch of the Pattaya beach road. If you’re headed to Thailand to party with friends from sundown to midnight, you might as well be in one of the world’s largest beach festivals.

Songkran Festival (April 13-15, 2019)

The Songkran Festival marks the start of the traditional Thai New Year, where people all over Thailand engage in the ultimate water fight. If you’re taking part in the Songkran Festival, you can expect to stay drenched for three days, so you better be armed with a bucket or a water pistol. Among the best places for Songkran celebrations are Bangkok’s Khao San Road, Chiang Mai, and Ayutthaya.

Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival (July)

This festival commemorates a Buddhist event called Asahna Bucha, when Buddha delivered his first sermon. Held at the beginning of the Buddhist lent called Khao Pansa, the festival puts the spotlight on the work of local artisans: elaborate candles, wax carvings, and decorated floats. For art and history junkies, the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival is one that cannot be missed.

Loy Krathong (November 13, 2019)

Known as the Thai Festival of Lights, the Loy Krathong Festival is held during the first full moon of the traditional Thai Lunar calendar’s 12th month. At this festival, you can join the crowd in letting lotus-shaped, candlelit containers float down the river, relish the visual spectacle that follows, and share an unforgettable memory with loved ones. One of the best places to celebrate Loy Krathong is Chiang Mai, where it coincides with the lantern festival called Yee Peng.

Wonderfruit Music and Arts Festival (December 12-16, 2019)

An annual arts, music, and lifestyle festival that made its debut in 2014, Wonderfruit brings together the arts, eco-living, and music at The Fields at Siam Country Club in Pattaya. During the four-day long festival, you can watch musical acts, visit art installations, attend wellness activities, and feast on local cuisine by renowned chefs. If you’re looking for a year-end trip worth remembering, this might be the festival for you to attend.

While these festivals can be your top choices for a Thai getaway this year, there are still a lot more choice of months and places to go to. Whether you’re on a solo trip, an adventure with friends, or a family holiday, there’s a festival to provide the setting for your #THAIMazing story.

Formally introducing these festivals to the Philippine market, the Tourism Authority of Thailand gathered selected print and online media at the PTAA Travel Tour Expo. With TV host – Robi Domingo, on hand, attendees were given a taste of what’s instore during their next Thailand adventure.
