From oversized candy canes to plush-inspired holiday décor, SM Center Sangandaan reimagined the Christmas centerpiece for a generation drawn to cozy aesthetics, playful design, and shareable experiences as it unveiled its “Sweet Plushie Holiday” display on Saturday, October 24.
The holiday centerpiece transformed the mall’s main atrium into a whimsical Christmas setting, combining the warmth of Filipino holiday traditions with the playful visual language of today’s Gen Z culture.
The unveiling was part of SM Supermalls’ “SM Magical Sparkle” campaign, a nationwide Christmas celebration that brings festive experiences to shoppers from September through December.
At the heart of the display were towering Christmas trees surrounded by oversized candy-cane details, sweet-themed décor, and plush-inspired elements, accented by a festive palette of red, silver, and gold. The combination gave the traditional Christmas centerpiece a softer, more playful character while creating an immersive setting for shoppers.
The display also reflected the way younger audiences increasingly experience holiday spaces. For Gen Z, a Christmas centerpiece can be more than a seasonal attraction. Its visual details, interactive elements, and photo-friendly spaces provide opportunities to create content, capture memories, and share experiences with friends and family.
The launch celebration brought the centerpiece to life through a lineup of music, dance, and holiday performances, featuring young performers and festive acts that complemented the playful, cozy spirit of the display.
The celebration culminated with a special appearance by Santa Claus and the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree. A cascade of dark red, silver, and gold confetti marked the finale, adding a festive spectacle to the centerpiece unveiling.
The Sweet Plushie Holiday installation will remain on display throughout the holiday season, with interactive photo spots and festive shopping activities available for mallgoers.
With its oversized candy-cane details, towering Christmas trees, plush-inspired décor, and playful holiday setting, the centerpiece offers a contemporary take on the Christmas tradition, bringing together the nostalgia of Filipino Christmas and the visual culture of a new generation.
