Who isn't excited about holidays? Guess what. June 26 is Eid’l Fitr, which means another long weekend is coming up. Everyone’s now scrambling to book cheap flights or bus tickets to take advantage of this free Monday. If you’re not one of the lucky few who managed to whip up a quick vacation, here are a few things that will keep you entertained without leaving the city. Some of them are even free!

Be productive

Let’s face it – not everyone is at peace with sitting around the whole day doing nothing. For those who always need to be busy, this is your chance to learn something outside of work. The hottest skill right now is anything digital, and you can get free (or cheap) courses online to get a head start. Learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, find out how to make a powerful blog with WordPress, finally figure out how to market on Facebook and Twitter, or start building a digital platform with HTML or CSS. If it’s too nerdy for your liking, get crafty with the many workshops available at CraftMNL, Ink Scribbler, or Memory Crafters.

Jumpstart a healthy lifestyle
If you’ve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle, perhaps a visit to BPI-Philam’s Win the Moment Wellness Festival will help you jumpstart this change. Head to Trinoma Activity Center on June 24 and participate in interactive booths that let you experience total wellness – not just physical but also social, emotional, mental and financial. From dance classes by G-Force, life-sized board games, and inspirational talks that help you pursue passion without losing all your live savings, the Win the Moment Wellness Festival brings a unique experience to all Filipinos. Top it off with a mini concert by KZ Tandingan and Quest, and you’ve crossed out one full day! Just download the Philam Vitality Active App from the Apple Store or Google Play and use the promocode bplacwtm to gain free entrance. You can register here.

Bring in the kids
Looking for someone who knows how to have fun? Turn to the little ones, whether you have your own kids, your young relatives, or your mommy-friend’s tots. There are so many things to do around Manila during the long weekend, but bringing the kids along will give it that extra energy and humor. Take a kalesa tour around the beautiful Intramuros, visit the many museums around the city and the newly-opened Planetarium in Manila, or let their (and your) energy loose at the many activities at SM by the Bay, Kidzania, or Dreamplay.

The best thing about a long weekend in the city is there are way less people crowding the streets and restaurants. Here’s your chance to head to some of those sought-after restaurants you can’t seem to get a free table in. Grab a seat at the 20-seater Mendokoro Ramenba at Salcedo Village in Makati, the tiny but super popular La Chinesca at BF Homes in Paranaque, or the full-to-the-brim Locavore in BGC or Kapitolyo. Looking for something new? Get your Filipino fix at the Poblacion Dining Room or a taste of Korea at Kko Kko in Makati without having to fight over parking as much as usual. You can also just head to Quezon City and sample everything at the newly-opened Kontorini Food Park.

20 June 2017, Philippines – Acer Philippines, a leading tech and innovations company, maker of desktop PCs, gaming PCs, laptops, tablets, servers, storage devices, Virtual Reality devices, displays, smartphones and peripherals, launches #TimeForUs, a movement that aims to narrow the divide between Gen Xers and millennials. Acer Philippines moves to bring two generations closer through technology, breaking down barriers built on misconceptions and misunderstandings.

At Acer, we believe that it’s time to focus on bridging the generation divide,” shares Sue Ong-Lim, Sales and Marketing Director of Acer Philippines. “It’s imperative that we see that, amidst the differences between Gen Xers and millennials, they are also a lot alike.”

Central to the campaign is the partnership between Acer Philippines and G-Shock, a franchise owned by Casio. G-Shock’s appeal has spanned both the Gen X and millennial generation, and continues to be popular among the youth today.

Acer Philippines also called on rock musician Basti Artadi and spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo, both artistic icons of their craft and time, to collaborate and develop “Time For Us” a musical-and-spoken word piece to drive the message of the campaign. Basti Artadi, vocalist of the award-winning rock band Wolfgang, rose to fame in the mid- to late-90s, making him a legend among those from Gen X.

Meanwhile, Juan Miguel Severo popularized the art of spoken word poetry when “Ito Na Ang Huling Tula Na Isusulat Ko Para Sa’yo”, his original piece, made rounds on social media, making it viral among the millennials. The piece cemented the admiration of spoken word poetry as an art form, and since then, Juan Miguel Severo has become the face of the craft.

G-Shock is proud to be Acer’s partner in furthering this cause. With Basti Artadi and Juan Miguel Severo, we aspire to bring the Gen X and millennial generation together,” says Charlene Hung, Marketing Officer of Casio Philippines. “With their help, we are optimistic that we will ultimately be able to succeed.”

The #TimeForUs Launch Event
The #TimeForUs launch led by Acer Philippines was held at Yes Please in June. This modern bar at Bonifacio Global City was transformed into a nostalgic wonderland reminiscent of the 80s and 90s, but peppered with today’s technology, symbolic of the event’s cause – old school arcades paired with Acer’s latest laptops, music sets that shifted from old school beats to modern pop, and an overall aesthetic that brought out the best from both eras.

As Acer Philippines formally announced its partnership with G-Shock, the powerhouse brands launched the #TimeForUs promo, where every purchase of qualifying Acer laptops entitles its buyers to a G-Shock watch, which they may claim in any of Acer’s service centers in Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

The event also saw the debut of “Time For Us” - the musical-and-spoken word piece created by Basti Artadi and Juan Miguel Severo. Basti Artadi pumped up the crowd with his roaring voice as Juan Miguel Severo, representative of the millennials, spewed compelling words; together, they delivered a powerful performance which was symbolic of two generations uniting. The Time For Us music video is now live online – you may watch the compelling piece at the Acer Philippines Facebook Page.

At the end of the campaign, we want to have brought a better understanding of and between Gen Xers and millennials,” shares Ray Gozon, Senior Marketing Manager of Acer Philippines. “We want these two generations to see the merits of working together.”

Marian Rivera-Dantes is used to playing different characters: Primetime Queen, recording artist, brand ambassador, style icon, and philanthropist. But her favorite roles by far have been those behind the camera: as wife to Dingdong and mom to Baby Zia.

As a modern homemaker, who manages her time between work and family, Marian has found comfort in cooking as one of the best ways to make her family feel loved and to improve her culinary skills. On her social media pages, the Kapuso actress has posted some of her own culinary creations that range from baby food for little Zia, stews, soups, and veggies. And on days when Marian is short on time, stir-fry dishes have become her go-to choices for easy, yummy meals.

Topping her stir-fry list are Chopsuey and Fried Rice made with AJI-GINISA® Flavor Seasoning Mix, as seen in the seasoning’s two new TVCs which began airing last June 4, 2017. In both versions, Marian dances and sings to the tune of her hit song, “Sabay-sabay Tayo,’ while she adds AJI-GINISA® to each dish to make them more delicious and “Garantisadong Ginisarap.”

Like Marian, you can also whip up “Garantisadong Ginisarap” dishes – even non-vegetable ones – by adding a touch of AJI-GINISA® to your favorite stir-fry recipes.

Albert Martinez with daughter Alissa and son Alfonso

Albert Martinez is undeniably a formidable actor with immense talent. Even with the many awards and critical acclaim under his belt, Albert’s greatest trophies –his most precious rewards –are truly his kids: Alyanna, stylist and fashionista; Alissa, online entrepreneur and foodie; and Alfonso, certified car nut and restaurateur.

In fact, Albert is first to admit how fatherhood completely changed his life and his outlook. “From a happy-go-lucky lifestyle,” he reveals, “I became more responsible. Being a father really gives you a more purposeful way of looking at life, and makes you more success-driven in order to provide a better future for your family.”

The untimely passing of his loving wife Liezl two years ago dealt a painful blow to family. While the void will forever be felt, Albert is grateful that Liezl did an excellent job in laying a strong foundation for their kids as they were growing up. “They’re all very focused and grounded,” he beams with pride.

And indeed, the Martinez brood is a picture of a contented, tight-knit family that is supportive of each other’s diverse interests and respective of each other’s personalities, where they make time to bond – to live deeper — just like friends. And what better symbol of this filial bond than the gift of a TechnoMarine watch for dad Albert on father’s day.

My dad and I have a lot of things in common,” shares eldest child Alyanna. “We love traveling, we love the outdoors, and we’re both moody at times,” she confesses. And while Alyanna was steadily making a name for herself in the world of fashion, Albert was always around to lend his support, attending shows and launches even with his hectic schedule. He even took a break from the hit series Ang Probinsyano just to be with Alyanna on her winter wedding in the US last year.

For Alissa, on the other hand, her being a foodie and love for animals are the ties that bind her close to her dad. Apart from helping set-up her online business PoppyLuca, an online pet accessories store, they can often be found in the kitchen together trying out new recipes. “My dad and I love to cook and we both love to eat!” she shares with a laugh.

And then, of course, there’s Alfonso, the unico hijo and bunso, whose love for cars and karting is something he picked-up from his dad. “My dad loves tinkering with cars during his free time,” he relates. Alfonso recalls fondly how he and his dad would join car clubs and go to car shows. “It’s really his passion aside from acting, and a hobby that I enjoy myself!”

Another thing that runs common among the Martinezes is their love for animals. They currently have seven dogs and translated this passion into a thriving family business: Ask a Vet.
With all these blessings and more, Albert Martinez is no doubt the perfect embodiment of TechnoMarine’s Live Deeper spirit. “For me, living deeper is all about knowing yourself more, being yourself, and enjoying life to the fullest!”

Albert wears the new TM-616002 from the UF6 line, the premium watch collection from TechnoMarine. TechnoMarine is available in Trinoma, Greenbelt 3, SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM City Cebu, Robinson’s Galleria, Robinson’s Magnolia, Shangri-La Plaza and all My Diamond boutiques nationwide. Imagine working in a world where time seems to just past by and where almost everything changes instantly. Think of having to keep up with an environment where it costs a lot to stop or even slow down for a while. Sound taxing, right? What more of prioritizing the welfare of everybody in the household on top of it all.

But every head of the family doesn’t mind about it. Fathers are said to be the pillars of our homes. They toil sun up to sun down to give our needs and desires.

Some of them go abroad with tears in their eyes because they will be physically separated from their families. However, there is a certain joy in their hearts knowing that they will be able to provide for their loved ones back home.

To honor these gallant paternal men and let them feel how extraordinary they are and important their sacrifices are for their families, Father’s Day has been a yearly universal event. As we mark again this special occasion on Sunday, June 18, 2017, our applause and recognition will never be enough to show them how grateful we are to have them in our lives.

Our dads, together with our moms, take good care of us the moment we’re born. They are the ones who provide everything we need for our everyday lives. From infancy up to adulthood, they feed and clothe us.

As we take our initial baby steps, our patriarchs guide and lead us in the right direction. When we stumble and fall, they assist us to rise and move on. In times of danger or any threat, they shield us from any harm.

All of these, they do out of unconditional love. Their selflessness, though, has its own toll. Working tirelessly could lead to high levels of stress constantly and problems not only mentally, but physically, too. So better watch out for the signs.

Has tatay been constantly complaining about losing strands and strands of his hair every day? Or maybe has he been searching for a way on how to get them to grow back?

According to the hair loss statistics conducted by Statistic Brain in the year 2016, 40 percent of men experience noticeable mane vanishing as early as age 35. And as per the American Hair Loss Association, there are a couple of different factors that cause excessive hair fall, one being extreme degree of stress.

Voila, it penetrates deeply into the roots, which helps rejuvenate, nourish and maintain the natural moisture of the hair.

This nature’s answer to hair loss provides him the chance to be ahead already in preventing his “crowning glory” from receding in the near future.
