Filipino singer-songwriter Jason Marvin starts 2023 on a bright note with the release of his new single “Oras.”

Brimming with lush, gentle arrangements and laid-back vocals, the piano-driven ballad finds the Cornerstone Entertainment artist traveling back in time in an attempt to amend a romantic relationship. It also touches on the idea of admitting one’s mistakes and using them as motivation to become a better person.

To quote Jason Marvin, “Mistakes will be made and regrets will always be a part of life, but we must learn to live with it, grow stronger, and continue singing the songs that we’re meant to sing.”

According to the singer-songwriter behind Gain, “Oras” is the first song that he wrote where the music video concept came first. “I imagined this scene where a guy who can time travel keeps on failing in his relationship. No matter what he does, even if he tries a hundred times, if it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be.”

Directed by King Bingcang and written by Jason himself, the music video conveys the essence of the lyrics in a straightforward manner. It stars social media influencer Albert Nicolas as a time traveler trying to win back the love of his life, and up-and-coming actress Roxie Smith, who is repeatedly pursued in the story.

“I still can’t believe we were able to shoot everything in one day,” says the Manila-based producer and singer-songwriter. “Everyone was just so light and fun to work with. Albert’s humor makes everyone forget that they’re tired, while Miss Roxie’s positive mood from start to finish was very contagious.”

“Oras” is written and produced by Jason himself and co-arranged by Nick Lazaro, a prolific producer who has worked with a diverse crop of musicians ranging from alternative rock outfit Oh, Flamingo! to hyper-pop soloist Pikoy.

“Arranged by me and Nick Lazaro, I wanted to achieve this nostalgic old sounding piano (like the ones in your lola’s old house),” the folk-pop singer-songwriter/producer adds. “Nick came in and put on the drums, bass guitar, and choir voices that made it all sound magical.”

Jason Marvin’s “Oras” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines. Watch the music video here

At least 400 public students of Baliwag South Central School welcome the year with cheer as they become recipients of the SM Bears of Joy donation from SM City Baliwag. Leading the distribution were SM City Baliwag Assistant Mall Manager Eugene Martin and Building Administration Manager Jay Esquivel. Members of the faculty, led by the school principal, Ms. Rosalie Santos, welcomed them.

In time for the return of classes after Christmas break, SM Bears of Joy served as a reminder to students of the importance of sharing and gift-giving as the true meaning of the holiday season.

Spearheaded by SM Cares, SM Supermalls, and Toy Kingdom, SM Bears of Joy is an annual project that aims to spread happiness to those in need while allowing shoppers to take part in bringing smiles to children’s faces in the community.

Christmas is a time of celebration, with family and friends getting together over a traditional feast. Everyone is in an upbeat mood, toasting to the holidays. But the reality is, there are thousands of homeless communities in the Philippines that find themselves detached from the celebrations during the season. This is where Bike Scouts, Pizza Hut, and a very special advocacy called the Midnight Ride, come together to bring the merry to these homeless communities.

Before there was the Midnight Ride, first there was Bike Scouts–a group of cyclists who came together to join relief and rescue efforts in Tacloban after the province was leveled by Typhoon Yolanda. Now officially known as Bike Scouts Philippines, the group has grown to over 150,000 strong, carrying in their hearts the Filipino spirit of Bayanihan and being a force for good - ordinary cyclists who are also rescuers and good Samaritans.

Among the Bike Scouts' most established traditions is the Midnight Ride. Held yearly on Christmas Eve, volunteer Bike Scouts ride across the city to distribute food and gifts to the homeless, spreading holiday cheer to those who need it the most.

The annual ride drew the attention of one of the country’s most popular pizza chains – Pizza Hut. They had been looking for their own way to bring the spirit of Christmas to underprivileged communities. Through the efforts of Havas Ortega Group, Pizza Hut’s advertising and communication agency, Bike Scouts of the Philippines forged a unique partnership for the season – the Bike Scouts x Pizza Hut Midnight Ride Thru Delivery.

How this campaign came to be a true collaborative effort. The Bike Scouts were tasked to pin areas via Google Maps, where they came across transient communities in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu. Over 141 pinned locations became markers for where the Bike Scouts x Pizza Hut Midnight Ride Thru Delivery delivered impromptu Noche Buena feasts to the homeless.

The pins also served as a way for the public to pay it forward during the season - sharing food and holiday cheer with those in need. The result was a sprinkling of happy gatherings across the city - bringing hope, love, and the spirit of Christmas to where there used to be none.

The past year may have been a tough one, but there is always an opportunity to bring a smile to someone’s face, more so during the Christmas season. On one extraordinary night, all it took was a group of volunteer bikers and a pizza chain to make it happen during one meaningful ride at midnight. Follow the route of the Bike Scouts x Pizza Hut Midnight Ride Bike Thru Delivery on Google Maps through https://bit.ly/MidnightRideThruDelivery, and make Christmas happen all throughout the year.

Multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, and trailblazer Miley Cyrus has released “Flowers” the first single from her forthcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, available globally on March 10th. The track finds Miley opining on self-love and courage, noting that “Started to cry / But then I remembered / I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand” before ultimately and powerfully declaring “I can love me better than you can.”

The themes of the song and buzz surrounding the music led fans to declare that 2023 is the year of Miley.

Unsurprisingly, Miley has delivered fans a fashion-forward video for “Flowers.” The video was created by Miley and directed by Jacob Bixenman, with Stephen Galloway serving as creative movement director.

There have been many visuals for Endless Summer Vacation; Miley first announced the album with a powerful trailer. The album cover, photographed by Brianna Capozzi and fully executed by Miley without visual effects, was also revealed. With the start of a new year comes fresh opportunities to make better, healthier choices. Developing habits supporting one’s lifestyle goals may prove to be challenging, but Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) encourages Filipinos to take even small, simple steps to build sustainable habits over time.

“Our brands support Filipinos as they take strides towards a healthier, more productive 2023. We believe that by making more mindful choices over time, more people can reap the positive benefits of adopting a more active, balanced lifestyle,” said Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI president and chief executive officer. Aside from exclusively producing well-loved beverages such as Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, and Gatorade in the country, PCPPI also bottles and distributes Premier Purified Water. As one of the country’s respected drinking water brands, Premier Purified guarantee consumer satisfaction as products pass high standards after stringent quality and safety testing.

PCPPI suggests five key tips to start 2023 on the right foot:

  • Explore healthier dietary options. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adults should maintain a diet high in fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and grains, but lower in salt, free sugar, and saturated fats. When filling one’s food basket, spend a few more minutes to check the nutrition labels. Developing healthy dietary habits may help strengthen the body in fighting non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.

  • Integrate movement in your daily routine. The worst exercise routine is a non-existent one. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an adult needs 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. That’s only 30 minutes every week day, so getting a few steps, skips, and stretches in may work wonders for one’s overall well-being.

  • Engaging in physical activities can also improve one’s self-esteem and cognitive functions, and can also help reduce tendencies for anxiety and depression.

  • Recovery is key. While physical activity and dietary choices are important in one’s annual health kick-start, getting adequate rest allows the body to recharge and reset. More than getting sufficient hours of sleep, medical studies suggest reducing one’s use of digital devices while in bed to help improve the quality of resting time.

  • Make time for mental health. Practicing self-care and kindness goes a long way. Taking a few minutes to pause and reflecting on the brighter side of daily life can do wonders when managing stress. One’s health also has to do with embracing mindfulness, patience, and compassion towards oneself and others. It may help to keep a daily journal, or write down three positive things that happened at the end of the day as forms of “self check-in.”

  • Drink more water. The CDC says everyone should consume eight to 10 glasses of water. Aside from preventing dehydration, doing so helps regulate cognitive, hormonal, and circulatory functions. Having a bottle of Premier Purified Water handy is recommended for proper nourishment even when on-the-go.

  • Other than Premier Purified Water, PCPPI is the sole Philippine manufacturer and distributor of Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Sting, Tropicana, Lipton, Aquafina, and Milkis. For more information about PCPPI and its brands, please visit pepsiphilippines.com.

Technology leader ABB recently introduced its medium-voltage (MV) sensors in the country. Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines Alain Gaschen attended the product’s trade launch, which also saw some of the top local utility companies in attendance.

The ambassador noted that with the opening of the economy post-pandemic, Swiss companies have shown an increased interest in the Philippine market and that the ABB product launch is proof of this movement.

Lukas Cesky, Product Specialist, MV instrument transformers and sensors, ABB Czech Republic; Roman Gvritishvili, Product Marketing Manager, ABB Czech Republic; Harlem Tsai, Digital Substation Product - Global Product Marketing Manager (SAS region), ABB Finland; and Nilesh Bauskar, Senior Marketing Manager - International Marketing, Indoor and Outdoor Products, Distribution Solutions, ABB India presented the advantages of ABB products during the event.

After the trade launch, a media roundtable followed with Cesky and Gvritishvili answering queries from members of the Philippine press.

ABB MV Sensors Features and Benefits

According to Cesky, ABB’s advanced sensors are helping customers to deliver a safe and sustainable power supply 24/7. It has an easy and fast engineering process, short delivery time, flexibility, and reliability.

ABB’s MV sensors are also designed for applications which provide increasing levels of remote control and communication, key to helping industries and utilities to integrate higher levels of renewable energy resources to reduce emissions and cut energy costs.

Addressing the Rising Demand for MV Sensors

Demand for the product has doubled since 2018 and is expected to increase significantly over the next five years. This prompted the company to invest 1.1 million USD in a new, state-of-the-art sensor production line at its Brno Instrument Transformers and Sensors factory in the Czech Republic.

At 15,000 sq. meters, Brno is already the world’s largest facility of its kind. The new production line will ramp up the scale and pace of Medium Voltage (MV) sensor production by almost 100 percent, to reach 100,000 units per annum by 2026.

Sensors from the Brno factory have been used in installations around the globe, including a recent project where 12,000 sensors were installed to raise the energy efficiency and stability of Northern Cairo’s electricity grid. They are ideal for replacing older instrument transformers, as they are smaller in size and safer to use.

On the back of growing demand for digital switchgear and the broader push to integrate more renewable energy resources, the new automated production line at Brno will ramp up capacity to produce a record-breaking number of sensors every year.

Record demand is being driven by the increasing use of MV switchgear. MV switchgear from ABB’s other production plant in Brno has been used in installations around the globe, from the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa which towers 828 meters over Dubai, to the depths of the London Underground.

In operation for 135 years and employing nearly 2000 people, the vast ABB Brno plant comprises seven separate units across two sites. This includes the Instrument Transformers and Sensors factory and the largest Medium Voltage Switchgear factory in Europe.
