The past years have always had us counting down to the most wonderful time of the year when the ‘ber’ months roll in; Christmas carols fill the air, dazzling tree lights dot the streets, shopping for gifts becomes a sport, and everyone else goes on a diet to make way for Christmas feasts.

This year may not be as festive as previous years, but it will most certainly be more meaningful. SM showed us the most uplifting way to best celebrate the season with “100 Days of Caring”;  featuring 100 days of spreading love, thoughtfulness, and care for one another and for the communities surrounding our favorite SM malls. The virtual event showcasing the pledges happened Thursday, Sept 16, 2021 over FB Live and WatchSM on YouTube.

“100 days of Caring”.
To kickstart the Christmas countdown, SM pledged to donate to over 10,000 beneficiaries, namely communities in need, hardworking SM employees, medical frontliners and dedicated delivery partners, among others. Some of the beneficiaries and their partner malls are as follows:

‘Gift’ for your mental health. Aside from our physical health being at risk during a pandemic, our mental health is also affected due to the stress and anxiety these times bring. And since SM believes in the value of taking care of our mental health, Dr Gia Sison, MD DPCOM gave a  ‘Call to Share’ talk during the virtual launch. Dr Gia Sison is a mental health advocate and co-founder of PH Leader Livestrong Foundation. Her talk centered on how to cope during this stressful time and still find hope in a better tomorrow.

100 voices that care. If there’s one thing that binds us all Filipinos together, it’s our passion and love for music. While we may not be allowed to have big gatherings this year, SM entertained the audience with the performance of the 3 Divas – Rahda, Frenchie and Bituin Escalante; later on joined by 100 artists, singers, and SM employees and stakeholders who came together to sing during the virtual launch on Sept 16.

We may be in the middle of a pandemic, times may be tough, and many of us may be physically apart, but let’s not forget what this season truly means. To view the event, go to WatchSM on YouTube.

While staying home during the past year, many have embraced the sporting life to keep healthy, happy and fit. They’ve turned to home gyms or online fitness classes instead of heading to the gym center; converted a part of their home into a yoga studio; biked their way to well-being through stationery bikes or cycled their way to the office; and have turned to their backyards to keep active and busy.

More than that, wellness has evolved from a lifestyle choice to a new status symbol, with an increasing number of fitness buffs showcasing their healthy lifestyles in social media, posting photos of them wearing athleisure apparel for all kinds of activities.

The good news is that Surplus has a new active wear collection designed for your comfort, performance, and style, perfect for both fitness and fashion.

Start your day balancing body, mind, and spirit with some yoga and meditation wearing a snug fit sports bra paired with lightweight and breathable leggings for a good range of motion. Do some cardio or strength training to boost your mood with sweat-wicking tees, gym shorts, or sweatpants.

If you’re going for a quick outdoor run or bike, wear athletic jackets or hoodies to protect your skin under the sun. Make sure also to keep your belongings safe with Surplus messenger bags, gym bags, and waist packs. Staying hydrated is also a must with tumblers and water bottles available in different designs and colors.

The Surplus active collection is available at Surplus stores located in most SM Supermalls nationwide.

Contact your nearest Surplus branch at bit.ly/OTDcontacts or visit SM City San Jose del Monte, SM City Baliwag and SM Center Pulilan. You may also check out Surplus at Lazada, SM Malls Online, and ShopSM. Surplus Order to Deliver is also now available; join their Viber community and follow them at Facebook and Instagram @SurplusPH and @Surplus_ph for more details.

SM Foodcourt in Baliwag receives PH’s Safety Seal, certifying the establishment’s compliance in providing quality and safe food experience in the province of Bulacan.

Being awarded with PH’s Safety Seal further attest to SM Foodcourt’s commitment in enforcing Minimum Public Health Standards (MPHS). On top of implementing wearing of facemask and face shield at all times, as well as safe distancing and queuing while orders are being taken, alcohols are also provided at each tenant counters and hallway for customers use. There are available handwashing stations and tissues provided as well as acrylic barriers for those who have actual food displays. Furthermore, regular disinfection of high-touch surfaces such as tables, chairs, countertops & partitions are regularly done by the sanitation personnel.

Aside from requiring patrons to submit to health declaration via official contact tracing app and non-contact temperature check prior entering the premises, money trays are also provided on the counter area. Moreover, customers are encouraged to do cashless transactions to further prevent the spread of coronavirus. Customers are also required to follow diagonal or alternate seating when dining.

Such safety measures and sanitary procedures are being implemented to all SM City Baliwag Foodcourt tenants such as Turks, Sisig Hooray, Mr. Kimbob, Baliwag Lechon, SALO, Sizzling Plate, Chizmozza, Buko Loco, Siomai House, Waffle Time, House of Takoyaki and Eggsprezz.

With the said efforts, and thorough assessment and evaluation conducted by representatives from government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Safety Seal tag was officially accorded to SM City Baliwag Foodcourt by the Local Government Unit through the head of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) Jose Nilo Fernando.

Prior to this, SM City Baliwag became one of the first recipient of Safety Seal in Bulacan accorded May of this year.

“We are happy that all our efforts were recognized. With the “Safety Seal”, we hope to increase people’s confidence in visiting our malls as health, safety, and well-being of our mall patrons and employees always remain to be our top priority” says SM City Baliwag Mall Manager Rodora Tolentino.

PH’s Safety Seal is granted to establishments that are compliant with the Minimum Public Health Standards. The initiative is another way to promote the government’s effort in fighting against COVID19 while assuring public safety and encouraging consumers to patronize business establishments with Safety Seals.
