Innovations in Development and Improved Efficiency with
Pantanal Developer Services
Since 2021, OPPO has held the ColorOSHack competition
annually. This year's competition centered on the theme "Pantanal Service:
Empowering Lives with Intelligence" and focused on the Asia-Pacific
region, with an emphasis on three key scenarios: daily life, transportation,
and entertainment. Participants were encouraged to learn the ropes of the Pantanal
Platform, develop smart services catering to one of the three scenarios, and
conceptualize scenarios
and design forms of interaction so as to help explore a new
service format for the Asia-Pacific market. Since the kick-off in July, the
entire competition lasted over 150 days, attracting more than 200 participants
from over 50 countries and regions around the world.

Pantanal Platform‘s capabilities, including Aqua Dynamics,
firstly introduced in ColorOS 14, provide a framework in which a service is
developed based a single template and then automatically adapted for
compatibility with phones, tablets, earbuds, and automotive head units, as well
as different access points, such as widgets, the cover screen on a flip phone,
and more. These new tools can further boost the development efficiency for
developers. OPPO now provides video tutorials, written guides, and codelabs
documentation, as well as a Pantanal IDE and Pantanal development framework, as
part of a comprehensive suite of resources intended to help developers get to
grips with Pantanal.
Increasing Strength of Global
Innovation Fuels Steady Eco-System Expansion
OPPO ColorOSHack 2023 focused on three core scenarios, and
was supplemented by a suite of newly upgraded developer services. Many
excellent works emerged, of which ten were selected for the finals. The team
creations addressed scenarios including navigation, payment, social
interaction, study, health,
and more. The final round lasted over three hours. A jury
composed of OPPO experts and industry experts from the Asia-Pacific region
evaluated the team’s work in terms of app prospects and
innovation, and selected the top three winning teams. Each
of the three will receive cash prizes to be put toward the incubation and
implementation of their products.
“NavOpp”, a transportation and payment project by the
Malaysian team End2End, earned unanimous approval from the judges and won first
place. The project is an app that provides cross-device support for
transportation and payment services. Relying on Pantanal's context-detection
capabilities, the app enables the seamless flow of information and services,
reducing steps and saving time on daily commutes and business trips, and making
ubiquitous services more scalable.

Through this year’s ColorOSHack, OPPO connected developers
on a global scale. Pantanal Developer Services lightened the workload of
developers, abstracting away the need to understand the complex underlying
hardware of different devices. Based on the open capabilities of the Pantanal
Platform, OPPO ColorOS will continue to provide developers with a foundation on
which to innovate and a communication platform through which they can showcase
their creations, bringing developers, entrepreneurs, and startups together to
develop and implement innovative solutions, and bring a smarter life to 600
million ColorOS users.

The Philippine Trade Training Center - Global MSME Academy (PTTC-GMEA) under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) unveiled the OBRA Design Masterclass Program that aims to provide specialized furniture training and mentorships to young designers and scholars.
The OBRA Design Masterclass Program is designed to empower and uplift local talent within the furniture and creative industries. The program is set to put the standards of Filipino furniture design to the next level by seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technologies, sustainable materials, and innovative creative processes.
“In the OBRA Design Masterclass, there will be training programs from mind setting, design thinking, market-driven designs, creative process, design phase, and prototyping. We will be witnessing the participants’ progress from the raw materials to those worth selling to the international market,” PTTC-GMEA Executive Director Nelly Nita Dillera said.
The program also aims to address challenges faced in the industry that affect Filipino furniture makers’ creativity and product development. Dillera cited escalating costs of imported raw materials and the competitive landscape amid rapid development on both local and international fronts.
Moreover, according to Ruby Salutan, Executive Consultant of Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc., a critical challenge the program intends to deal with is the emigration of professionals, including skilled furniture designers, from the country. OBRA Design Masterclass focuses on cultivating a cohort of young designers capable of seamlessly entering and contributing to the industry.
DTI-Competitiveness and Innovation Group Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba highlighted in her keynote speech the pivotal role of design in shaping a product's value, influencing consumer perceptions, demand, and market positioning, which generates value in the furniture landscape.
“In an increasingly competitive market environment, design stands as a key differentiator. Beyond keeping pace with design trends, our designs must also align with emerging consumer preferences encompassing eco-friendly materials, digital technology integration, and responsible sourcing,” Aldaba said.
The program sessions will take place simultaneously across three locations: Pampanga, Cebu, and Manila. Participants will have the opportunity to refine their skills and capabilities in crafting designs and prototypes, guided by industry-renowned furniture designers such as multi-awarded industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue and industry partners like the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines, Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc., and Pampanga Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc.
The program comprises three phases: the designer’s phase, providing participants with training in planning, execution, evaluation, and tools; the program consultancy phase, involving participant-companies in product development planning; and the designing for the market phase, where participant-companies engage in an international event, notably the Philippines International Furniture Show in March 2024.
The OBRA Design Masterclass Program sessions are scheduled to commence in the second week of December 2023. For more information, visit the DTI-PTTC Facebook page or www.pttc.gov.ph.

Conti's Bakeshop and Restaurant upped the sweet spirit of Christmas by surprising random customers with free Mango Bravo cakes and a heartfelt request to share the joy with a stranger.
Diners who received a complimentary Mango Bravo were given another whole cake and were encouraged to pass the kindness forward by giving the second cake to a random person.
"The act of paying it forward fosters a sense of connection and community. Sharing Mango Bravo with a stranger is a simple yet powerful way to bridge gaps and strengthen the bonds between people," Patricia Marañon-Tan, one of the daughters of Conti’s founder, said.
"In a world that can sometimes feel chaotic, simple acts of kindness stand out. It has the power to create a positive and uplifting environment."
Conti's chose to give away Mango Bravo cakes because it's the most sought-after delicacy from the beloved food brand's roster of delectable dessert offerings, and has been a part of many family's Noche Buena for the past 26 years.
"Our signature cake represents indulgence and celebration. It's not just a treat for the taste buds but a symbol of joy and festivity," Marañon-Tan said.
"Christmas is a season of giving, and what better way to celebrate it than by sharing the joy our beloved Mango Bravo brings. It's a small gesture that we hope will inspire a chain of kindness that will make a lot of people's holiday season brighter."
The special project was captured in a video that had been getting a lot of attention and spreading warm holiday cheer on Conti's Facebook page (https://bit.ly/3tsAyLc) where it was posted.
