Doublemint’s Sarah and Juan campaign came to a close with a winner after over a thousand Filipino participants nationwide sharing their own kilig stories through #LoveWraps.

Even select local celebrities, bloggers, and the press picked up the campaign in telling their own stories of affection to their loved ones. Numerous entries in the #LoveWraps microsite came from different parts of the Philippines, with entries showing that expressing love or affection was not limited to significant others, but also to family members and barkadas. The chosen winner of #LoveWraps was Rio Espejon from Cebu, for his creative and inspiring story. He won the grand prize, which was a trip to Boracay for two.

Rio Espejo’s winning entry

Creating meaningful connections is a very Filipino gesture, as seen on the participants’ entries. Going beyond the kilig factor, the #LoveWraps campaign highlights the importance of these connections and the sweet memories that come along with it. It also happens to closely follow the story and "kilig" factor of Kathniel's blockbuster movie, "Can't Help Falling in Love."

The high participation to this campaign shows that the story of Sarah and Juan is relevant to us Filipinos. Sarah and Juan both represent the common person in finding love and cherishing it with the people he/she finds important. There is importance to finding a special someone, or at least sharing something meaningful with others. Having that connection will always create a sweet and kilig feeling, just like the sweet gestures and surprises make our day. It tugs the heartstrings and delights the common Filipino, and the experience is not limited to celebrity love teams or couple influencers who exchange a cute banter or two. It can happen to anyone.
It goes without saying that it’s the little things that matter, even if it simply starts by sharing a stick of gum.

Doc Pao is one of the kindest, if not the kindest doctor that you will ever meet. A lot of doctors say that they care about their patients but trust you me when I say that Dr. Paolo Bellosillo truly, madly, deeply cares for his patients in every way of form.
We had the chance to sit down and talk to Doc Pao amidst his busy schedule and here’s what we were able to discuss.
1. With the many things you have accomplished already, what else do you wish to accomplish this remaining half of 2017?
Formulate natural therapeutics that are not ingested but applied on the skin to make people glow and feel they are great because they are who they are. To have gold on their skin because they deserve it, because they are beautiful already and have value that can be flaunted or shown. To make people ageless, whiter and glow to see their real features.  Giving them luxury made affordable is just a dream for now but hopefully a reality that will come true.

2. What has been your biggest achievement this year?
I had a married couple in their senior years who came to see me for assistance.  The wife actually had multiple strokes and the husband was in average health but stress seemed to catch up.  It would be hard to see your loved one deteriorate before you throughout the years to the extent that knowing who you are and what you are to each other seemed to need so much effort to know what was true- husband and wife.  Apparently the husband wakes up every morning to seeing his wife not knowing his name or that he was her husband.  This was sad, and this was happening for many long years.
With that in mind just a few weeks ago, after therapy the husband tells me his sadness was overwhelming because his wife seemed to forget who he was.  I sought permission given the fact we had down therapy for her brain for enhanced memory and function for some time, so I asked the wife: ” Ma’am, who is he? The she said he is Ramon Py. Then the husband smiled, but I didn’t stop, therefore I proceeded in asking “Who is he to you?”, then the wife said “He is my husband.”
They both looked at each other and smiled in complete and perfect love as I looked at them and smiled too.

3. What has been the biggest challenge in getting people to believe in your line of work?
It is when they have met other doctors who they sought for help from but actually made more harm.  They feel bad about it and think every doctor is like that. In reality, not every doctor is a docere, a teacher or born to teach with a passion or with a heart, when people see that and the approach is holistic and evidence based, views and outlooks change.
4. Who is your target client? What can you do for them?
People of all ages preventing diseases that wreak havoc in our communities such as chronic and degenerative diseases. Diabetes, Hypertension, Coronary Artery, Cardiac Insufficiency, Stroke, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s,  Chronic Kidney Disease, Cancer of all forms.
Where heart transplants or kidney transplants are needed hope in saving the said organs can still apply for natural and friendly holistic therapies can still be undertaken. People who want to achieve ageless beauty, which is disposition and holistic integrity from within to our should see me.
We hope that there will be more doctors like Doc Pao who really want what is best for the people and the patients that he sees. The world would be a healthier place if that were the case.

It must be my lucky month as I won another concert ticket this year. The previous one was the China Crisis performance in Kia Theater at Quezon City. John Claude Gummoe was there to represent Cascades and Mark Preston for The Lettermen.

In the show which was held last night at the Newport Performing Arts theater in Resorts World Manila, John Claude shared that their manager was responsible for their group's name which was formerly Precursors, if I heard it correctly. Apparently, they had to have a name and their boss looked around the kitchen to find a dish washing soap's name to be appealing. Unbelievable!?

The front act was Mark Preston who serenaded the crowd with a medley of their hits. It surely wasn't my era but it was all classics and I can sing along to most tunes I heard. The quality of his voice is remarkable at whatever his age is. I heard their songs due to my dad's music preference that played on our karaoke or boombox a decade or two ago and is in his tablet playlist recently. Mark Preston surprised everybody with his rendition of Filipino songs like "Ako'y isang Pinoy" by Florante , if my memory serves me right.

For two hours or so, the soothing voice of Cascades' John Claude Gummoe was heard on stage. John Claude wore a shining silver suit which he eventually removed probably after feeling hot.  I remember the same thing happened to the concert of China Crisis wherein the singer even brought an abaniko. To everyone's delight, Jose Mari Chan joined him onstage and sang the hit "Beautiful girl".

Like every concert, the audience clamored for an encore. John Claude responded by performing his Millennial version of "Rhythm of the Rain" which I find better than the original version since the arrangement seems to be melancholic and is apt to the lyrics. The concert ended with the song "The Last leaf" and the crowd seemed to be pleased like I was. How I wish my mom and dad were there at the concert too.

Following my stint at Techtonic 2017 at SMX Mall of Asia on the 30th of July, 2017 is another event beside it: PET Express Dog & Cat Expo 2017. The admission was free and my excitement to see these adorable creatures gave me the reason to go in. It was a gathering of pet owners, specifically cats and dogs and there were activities all around.

This cat named Michiko doesn't seem to be having a "pawsome" day. I got to take home a small bag of dog goodies that I won from a game where I used a Nerf gun to hit some targets. I was lucky to hit one on my the third try!

There was a Cat cafe where I spotted this adorable owner errr cat sleeping. Cafes like this are sprouting in the metro and it's a haven for cat enthusiasts. I heard you can bring your cat with you inside the cafes. More and more establishments are getting animal-friendly.

Most pets are in their shopping carts and it was easy to take photos of them. I was not familiar with a few breeds. Big ones, small cuddly sizes and middle sizes are all over the place. Jack Russell terriers, Chihuahuas, Labrador retrievers, Poodles, Pitbulls, and Mini pinschers were some of the dogs brought to the area. A crowd gathered as they were amazed at the Polar bear-looking dogs called Samoyed.

Too bad I did not have my pet with me, there was a free photo booth for the cats and dogs with their owner. I was in a hurry to get home so I took a few shots of these furry animals.

Need a life guard or special assistance :) ?  This Lab was waiting for some action. FYI, the most widely trained dog for regular patrol work is my favorite breed.. German Shepherd. Other notable breeds include--but are not limited to-- Belgian Malinois, the Labrador Retriever, and the Dutch Shepherd.

Promos including discounts await the owners. All major brands were there and it was a great day for club members to mingle with each other. Several interesting breeds caught my eye.

A day would not be complete without a Hugot line. Who would have thought that you'll find one here?

The event was sponsored by Pet Express. Pet Express remains to be the largest pet supply retail superstore for dogs and cats in the country. It is a one-stop shop for pet needs and more. It has a fantastic selection of pet products, including food, treats, clothes, toiletries, grooming tools, clothes, cages, toys, cages and more. It has a wide assortment of brands, carrying both local and imported pet products. It offers modern, spacious and clean salon facility for pet grooming and trained professional groomers.

Pet Express also offers quality veterinary services provided no less than by licensed veterinarians certified by the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association. Aside from this, Pet Express has its own pharmacy for your pets’ medical needs. Moreover, dog training classes are also made available to pet guardians who want to improve interaction between them and their pets.

In search of an effective way to lose pounds, I stumbled upon a revolutionary health cooker.

A media launch was held at Shangri-la hotel, a detailed discussion about a two-year old product from Malaysia was presented. Grayns rice cooker; sounds like grains, so I thought. Could this help prevent obesity or possibly be the answer to our health problems? Read on to find out.

Grayns is the only one of its kind. This invention is from Malaysia and in a recent study conducted, the said country ranks the highest in obesity rate across Asia and the Philippines is at 4th place. Is carbs bad? Should we remove it completely from our diet? Carbs are classified into two: Rapidly Digestible Starch and Slowly Digestible Starch.

Rapidly Digestible Starch (RDS) is absorbed fast in the bloodstream giving way to a spike in the glucose levels whereas the Slowly Digestible Starch (SDS) is absorbed slowly, our body's energy level will rise gradually and it makes you feel full for longer. Oats contains SDS. Uncooked grains like rice, wheat and barley also has SDS but if cooked improperly, it releases RDS.

How does Grayns rice cooker work?

It actually is similar to how we traditionally cook rice. Excess water after boiling is removed from the conventional rice cooker since starch is in the water. However, effectively removing starch the through the traditonal method is a long and tedious process which takes about three hours . Grayns rice cooker automatically cooks rice in forty minutes in such a way that it produces SDS or Slowly Digestible Starch. The processes involved in cooking are: Thermosense - wherein a low temperature pasteurization occurs to gelatinize the rice to release the RDS into the water. Next stage is Debond - where the temperature is maintained for gelatinization to continue so that most of the RDS is rid out. After that, RDS is Transuded or in other words, discharged through the tiny membranes below the cooker and drained into a Starch collection tray. Last stage is Demoisturize to make the rice fluffy to reach its full volume and in turn makes you feel full, it also removes excess moisture to prolong the life of rice of up to 5 days or more when left outside at room temperature in a climate like ours.

In comparison, rice cooked in Grayns rice cooker has 30-35% lower on the Glycemic index which translates to a healthier alternative not just for Diabetics but also for people with Heart disease, Obesity, premature ageing, high cholesterol levels, and Cancer.

An added and notable feature of the product is the ability to control the moisture and softness of rice that means it is best for any variant of rice: white, red, brown, or black. It can even cook vegetables and native Filipino delicacies.

For now, there is only a single model of this apparatus but variations like one with a bigger capacity will be available in the future. It can be purchased for Php27,000 and is retailed at Abensons and Rustans in Metro Manila and it can be purchased in Cebu and Davao as well.

Is a healthy product worth the buy? Crash dieting can never be a sustainable solution to our health woes, a lifestyle change is and personally, I am sold at this invention.
