PHILIPPINES, April 25, 2017 – Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Balanced Nutrition Survey1, which focuses on shedding light on nutrition and health habits, behaviors and attitudes of consumers aged 18 and above. The survey is an element of the seventh Herbalife Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, seeking to inspire consumers to adopt balanced nutrition habits and reinforce its impact to long-term health and wellbeing. According to survey findings, 8 in 10 (78%) of Filipino consumers are eating less than half of the daily recommended serving of fruits and vegetables, 4 in 10 (41%) do not drink enough water, and more than half (59%) do not get enough exercise.

While 6 in 10 (60%) of consumers in the Philippines believe that ensuring their body gets the sufficient nutrients to function optimally was the greatest motivator to adopting a balanced diet, modern, fast-paced lifestyles make it increasingly challenging to incorporate healthy nutrition habits into daily lives.
The study revealed that 6 in 10 (57%) respondents in the Philippines found having a daily balanced nutrition approach to be challenging, citing the lack of time, money, and motivation to be the top three obstacles preventing them from having a healthier lifestyle.
Additionally, the Philippines survey findings revealed the following:
• 8 in 10 (78%) consumers claimed to consume 0 to 2 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, below the recommended 5 servings per day
• 4 in 10 (41%) consume less than the recommended 8 glasses of water/fluids per day
• Over half (59%) achieve less than 1 hour of physical activity per day, with 10% having no physical activity at all
• The top 3 motivations to adopting balanced nutrition are sufficient nutrients to function optimally (60%), to prevent health related problems and complications (51%) and to maintain ideal body weight to prevent obesity-related health problems (39%)
• The top 3 obstacles to a daily nutrition approach are lack of time (57%), lack of money (53%), and lack of motivation (45%).
• To help consumers improve their nutrition habits:
o 7 in 10 (67%) of respondents feel that having an easier access to healthier food choices would help them adopt a balanced nutrition approach.
o 4 in 10 (37%) of respondents look for like-minded people to make healthier food choices together
o 4 in 10 (42%) of respondents seek expert advice for a personalized nutrition plan
When asked about what would help them achieve their balanced nutrition and exercise goals, most of the respondents agreed that balanced nutrition and community support approach, such as that exhibited at Herbalife Independent Nutrition Clubs, would improve personal well-being in the long run.

“As a global nutrition company, Herbalife Nutrition is committed to helping consumers adopt balanced nutrition habits, so that they can have a positive impact on their lives in the long run,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, general manager of Herbalife Philippines. “At the Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, our Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board members will be visiting cities in the region to raise awareness of the need for balanced nutrition and physical activity as well as associated benefits to one’s overall well-being, to help people put healthy nutrition habits into practice in daily living.”
Held from 5th of April to 15th of May, the Herbalife Asia Pacific Wellness Tour will feature a series of medical symposia, nutrition talks and health workshops held in 23 cities across Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
At the symposia, Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) expert will share their expertise on a variety of health-related topics, including childhood obesity, weight management, sports science, sports performance, metabolism and balanced nutrition.

We all want to look good and feel good but often resort to taking shortcuts in our diets due to our fast-paced, urban lifestyles, neglecting the foundations of balanced nutrition. How can we achieve this balance in our diets? Are we more focused on other concerns like weight loss and energy flows?
Some people view nutrition as a means to consume and expand the same amounts of calories to maintain a consistent weight instead of to optimize their body functions. While body weight is important, it is only one factor. According to the World Health Organization, “a healthy diet can protect the human body against certain types of diseases, in particular non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, some types of cancer, and skeletal conditions.” In short, it helps you to look good and feel good.
Sounds simple, right? On the contrary, a recent Herbalife Asia Pacific Balanced Nutrition Survey reaffirmed that it was easier said than done. Over a third of respondents felt that adopting a balanced nutrition approach was not easy with urban lifestyles, as consumers tend to choose ready-meals instead of making proper nutrition choices.
As you may know, a healthy balanced diet should include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, without too much sugar or salt to provide a good combination of nutrients such as carbohydrate, protein, and fat, along with vitamin and fiber. As a guiding principle, Herbalife Nutrition stands by a “4-3-3” philosophy of balanced nutrition—with an ideal diet comprising 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fats, along with vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber, and water. The survey showed that while the average correspondents’ diets was close to this ratio, it was deeply lacking in fruits, vegetables, dietary fiber, and proper hydration.

What’s causing this? Not surprisingly, respondents indicated that the top two obstacles preventing them from adopting a balanced nutrition are lack of time and motivation. Contrary to popular belief, while it does take effort to kick-start a positive nutrition habit, it is not difficult to integrate it into your life with planning and support. Here are some practical tips that you can incorporate in your journey to achieving balanced nutrition.
  1. Map out your nutrition journey. Understand your own body’s nutrition needs and goals—whether it is to gain, lose, or maintain weight. It is as important as your age, height, gender, lifestyle, and overall general health. If you’re unsure where to start, get support from health experts and groups. The survey findings showed that over a third of respondents agreed that if they had expert advice for a personalized nutrition plan, they were more motivated to adopt a balanced nutrition approach.
  1. Place healthier choice within reach. Review the circumstances behind the food choices. Did you succumb to quick foods as it is the most convenient? Over half (56 percent) of respondents revealed that easier access to healthier choices would make it easier to have a balanced nutrition. On your next shopping trip, stock up on healthy fruits, vegetables, and snacks and keep them within reach. Then, choose the healthiest way of preparing your meals such as steaming or broiling instead of deep-frying. Also, make a mental note of healthier food options when eating out.
Be mindful to avoid highly refined food such as white rice, bread, and products made with white flour like cakes and cookies. Meat is one protein source, though high levels of saturated fat may raise cholesterol. Instead, try fish, especially oily fish, legumes, and beans. If you are time-pressed, a protein shake can serve as a good meal replacement.
  1. Find strength in numbers. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people can help you to reach your exercise and nutrition goals. The survey findings affirm this with 35 percent of respondents agreeing that being with like-minded people helps them stay on track. The British Journal of Sports Medicine also found that people who regularly walk in groups have lower blood pressure, resting heart rate, and total cholesterol. As a start, join or organize a walking group of friends, neighbors or colleagues and build your own support system.
As you embark on your own nutrition journey, don’t forget to review your needs from time to time. After all, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Soon, you’ll feel better with improved energy and vitality. And friends and family may notice that you’re looking better.

She is also the Herbalife Vice PResident, Worldwide Nutrition Training, and a member of Herbalife Nurtition ADvisory Board, responsible for setting the strategic direction of educating and training inderpendent Herbalife Members and members of the public on the principles of nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyle.

Gum alive. Hmm, I wonder if this is just like the other toothpastes I have tried.

There's a reason for not having any celebrity endorsers for their products. Word of mouth is more powerful than any endorsement. It relies on honest testimonials. The packaging says  Pure Herbal Extract Spa Toothpaste. Pure means 100%. It also claims it has no SLS, Parabens, and Flouride.

Let's break it down:

SLS or Sodium Laureth Sulfate is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent used in many cosmetic products for its cleaning and emulsifying properties. It behaves similarly to soap. I learned from research that it can cause irritation of the scalp, gums and skin.

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in personal care products; they stop fungus, bacteria and other microbes from growing in your favourite creams and makeup, especially in the moist, warm environment of a bathroom. In the 1990s, parabens were deemed xenoestrogens―agents that mimic estrogen in the body. “Estrogen disruption” has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues. And in 2004 British cancer researcher Philippa Darbre, Ph.D., found parabens present in malignant breast tumors. As a result, experts in many countries are recommending limits on paraben levels in cosmetic products. What’s more, watchdog organizations worry that if parabens can be stored in the body, over time they could have a cumulative effect and pose a health risk.

Flouride on the other hand easily accumulates in your pineal gland. In fact, your pineal gland has the highest concentration of fluoride of any organ in your body, even more than your teeth and bones. This can wreak havoc with your melatonin production, which in turn can disrupt your biological clock and even influence your cancer risk. That is only one of the dangers of Flouride.

Analyzing the effects of the three said ingredients will make you want to think twice about using traditional toothpaste products.

SO WHAT DOES GUM ALIVE TOOTHPASTES CONTAIN?

Since it is three products, I thought of giving ample time to test each and picked the Green one that says FRESH BREATH. The box indicates "Ingredients : Bhodical extract ,guava leaf oil , distilled wood vinegar."

Bodhical Extract is the formula that claims to strengthen the gums and teeth and address the root causes of oral care problems.

I used it. I gave it a week, followed by two more weeks.

DOES IT WORK?

Yes. You would not wait a week to see the results. I can testify that it gave me fresh breath but I was curious enough to make sure the results will be consistent so I tried it for more than a month. The Fresh breath variant really works! I tested my breath after waking up in the morning. No more morning breath!  I also had someone check it out for me regularly.

There's a reason it has three variants: Fresh breath, Special gum care, and teeth whitening. It's because each toothpaste has its functions which works synergistically with each other.

By now you might be curious if the other two variant also works. My sister and my close friend had toothache and tried the variant which says Special Gum Care. I was not expecting it to work, honestly. Hey! you know what? It actually reduced the pain. Stay tuned as I update this post over the next few weeks or months as I try the other variants myself.

Teresa Loyzaga has been in the showbiz spotlight for decades, assuming many roles both in reel and real life, where she has portrayed to great effect quite a myriad of characters.

With all the characters that she has played, however, it is her role as daughter to her father basketball legend Carlos Loyzaga and mom Victoria, sister to her siblings Chito, Joey, Princess and Bing, and of course mother to sons Joseph and Diego, that she considers priceless and closest to her heart. After all, she says, family means everything.

And while many might think that her life in showbiz is one of sheer glamour and prestige, Teresa also endured her fair share of challenges, not the least of which is being a single mother to two kids whom she single handedly raised in the face of trials.

“The hardest part for me was not being able to be with them physically as much as I wanted to because I had to work,” she confides. “Time management and a great deal of patience and selflessness always came in handy, as well as the love and support of Nanay Conchita who is always there for me. She is my yaya and I consider her as my second mom.”

But Teresa is nothing if not persistent, and not to mention resilient, especially in the face of hardships. In 2000, she took a big risk to pursue her dream. Taking her children along, she joined her parents in Australia to start anew. It not only meant getting out of her comfort zone, but it also required her, at the onset, to take on odd jobs just to support her family. “Yes I took odd jobs. But I had a dream. It doesn’t come easy and definitely not for free, but they do come true,” she shares with pride.

And no one could be prouder of all the sacrifices that Teresa had to bear than her sons Joseph and Diego who are most grateful, more so now that it is Mother’s Month. Both brothers agree that what they have become, they owe much to their mom.

“You’d definitely say she’s very strong willed but most of all I’d just say motherly,” shares Joseph, who is working towards opening a vegan restaurant. “She managed to teach us to think for ourselves, to always do right, not because of merit and reward, but because it is the right thing.”

“She’s a superhero!” beams Diego, who has also caught the acting bug. “She would split herself into many versions and work multiple jobs. Inabot nya mga pangarap nya – makalipad, magtrabaho, at bigyan niya ng magandang buhay sa ibang bansa ang mga anak nya.”

What better gift to give their super mom this Mother’s Day, as a symbol of their heartfelt appreciation, than a TechnoMarine timepiece?

Teresa has surely come a long way since then and is truly embodying TechnoMarine’s “Live Deeper” spirit to the fullest. In 2003, she was able to land her dream job in Australia – proof that if you work hard enough, you can achieve your aspirations and live a fulfilling life.

“Living deeper to me need not only mean activities, action, success…it also means acceptance of limitations and maximizing its potential. It means doing your best in the most humble and unnoticeable way—being quiet yet being bold”, she explains.

And truly, these days, Teresa is the picture of fulfillment and contentment. Having put the past behind her, she is glad too that the world of show business – her other family as she puts it — is always there to welcome her back.
And as a parting shot, Teresa shares, “To fellow single moms, chin up! You are no less than other moms as there is no task that you cannot achieve. Enrich yourselves through this journey and grow with each day of struggle. Most importantly, keep your feet on the ground but keep reaching for the stars.”
