SM City Grand Central just got exciting with two must-visit new spots at the mall. Whether you are craving an ice-cold, nostalgia-filled Filipino dessert or a globally inspired, flavor-packed meal, Bebang Halo-Halo and Stuff’d have got you covered. Located on the upper ground level, the newest dining gems offer something for every foodie—whether you are a dessert aficionado, a savory snack lover, or just looking for your next Instagram-worthy bite.

Bebang Halo-Halo is not just about mixing ingredients in a bowl; it is about storytelling through flavors. Unlike your usual halo-halo, where the prized leche flan sits on top. Bebang Halo-Halo flips the script—literally—by tucking it at the bottom for a sweet, creamy finish. Each serving is a delightful layering of textures and flavors, all topped off with shaved frozen full cream milk that is so smooth, TikTokers liken it to Korean bingsu. Their best-selling Presidential Halo-Halo (P168) is an absolute feast, packed with macapuno, nata, langka, and other premium ingredients, while flavors like melon, mango, and buko pandan offer a refreshing alternative to the classic.

Meanwhile, just a few steps away, Stuff’d is shaking up Caloocan’s food scene with its fusion of Mexican and Turkish flavors. The star of the menu? Their signature kebabs and burritos are generously packed with grilled chicken or beef chili con carne, fresh vegetables, and bold sauces like smoky BBQ or spicy habanero. If you are more of a light-but-filling eater, the pan-roasted quesadillas, layered with salsa and sour cream, are the perfect go-to. And for those who love building their own meals, the Daily Bowl lets you customize your plate with five toppings of your choice, ensuring every bite is uniquely yours.

With Bebang Halo-halo’s inventive take on a Filipino favorite and Stuff’d’s fresh, flavor-packed wraps and bowls, SM City Grand Central is shaping up to be a go-to spot for foodies looking for exciting new eats. Whether you are cooling down with halo-halo or powering up with a burrito, one thing’s for sure—your next food trip just got a whole lot more delicious and exciting!

Runners gather at the starting line of the first-ever GCash Eco Run, taking strides for sustainability and mangrove restoration–planting over 76,000 trees in the Negros region

MAKATI, Philippines—The time, effort, and dedication needed to train for a race or marathon make crossing the finish line so rewarding for many runners. In the same way, creating a greener, more sustainable future requires the same level of collective commitment.

(Left to right) Content Creators Reyn Bautista, Reuel Morales and Baileys Acot join the first-ever GCash Eco Run

Nuvali Run Club members joined the 10KM race of the GCash Eco Run

More than just a race, the first-ever GCash Eco Run turned the streets of Ayala Avenue, Makati, into an eco-movement. Over 12,000 eco-runners laced up their shoes—not just to set personal records but to make a lasting impact on the environment. With the support of its event sponsors and sustainability partners, this milestone initiative has already planted 76,000 trees across 11 hectares in the Negros region.

GCash Eco Run’s interactive booths by advocacy and sustainability partners, promoting sustainable practices and adopting an eco-conscious lifestyle

A Race That Goes Beyond the Finish Line

In support of the South Negros Reforestation Initiative, a long-standing partnership between Silliman University and GCash, each sign-up to the GCash Eco Run contributed to the planting of a grey stilted mangrove tree in Negros Occidental. GCash doubled their commitment by pledging an additional tree for every participant. This means that the runners alone contributed 24,000 new trees.

Grey stilted mangroves play a vital role in environmental conservation as they mitigate the impacts of extreme weather and sequester carbon while providing habitats for marine life. As a result, mangrove forests are some of the most effective natural ecosystems for carbon storage today, making them a crucial asset in the fight against climate change.

In line with its commitment to using tech for good, the GCash Eco Run served as a platform to raise awareness on sustainable living, bringing together partner organizations and eco-conscious brands to share their advocacies and inspire collective action.

Organizations championing various sustainability advocacies joined, such as Berdeng Kalaw, which collects paper and metal for recycling; Caritas Manila, which turns clothing donations into funds for scholars; Zolo, which resells and recycles e-waste; and Aling Tindera, which gathers plastic waste for recycling.

Attendees also explored products from the partner eco-merchants such as Cut the Craft, Bukid ni Bogs, Wonderhome Naturals, Eco Shift, and Commune. They also got their GCash VISA cards from 100% recycled plastic.

GCash makes it easy for partners to drive positive change by bridging them to Silliman University, turning commitments into real action. With the support of 8 companies working together for a greener future, a total of 52,000 trees will be planted in Negros on top of the 24,000 trees from the eco runners.

Continue Taking Steps for the Environment with GForest

GCash continues to make sustainable living easier and more accessible for every Filipino. Through GForest, every transaction on the GCash app, such as cashing in, sending money, paying bills, buying load, or even taking 20,000 steps a day, earns green energy points, which users can redeem to plant virtual trees and contribute to a greener future.

Together with various partner organizations, GCash transforms these into actual trees, planted in key areas around the country, demonstrating how GForest serves as a Tech for Good platform.

Much like how GForest turns virtual trees into actual ones, the GCash Eco Run brings together our community of Green Heroes, driven by a shared purpose to create real-world impact—one step, one tree, and one action at a time,” said CJ Alegre, GCash Head of Sustainability.

The biggest digital eco-movement is now even bigger. Every step, every action, and every tree planted brings us closer to a greener future. Be a green hero today and sign up by tapping GForest on your GCash app dashboard.

The GCash Eco Run is supported by corporate partners who also pledged trees, such as IKEA Philippines, Globe AT HOME, Pay & Go, and eTap Solutions. This effort strengthens Silliman University mangrove reforestation efforts.

Women’s Month is an important event that celebrates women’s contributions to society. Beyond recognizing their achievements, this month is also a significant platform for addressing critical issues on women empowerment, including women’s wellness.

A study by the global medical technology company Hologic revealed that the Philippines lags behind its Southeast Asian neighbors when it comes to women’s healthcare, placing second to the lowest in the region.

Supporting women’s health is the key to advancing their economic power. When women have access and options for their health, they are more physically and mentally ready to build and manage their own financial capability as well as contribute to their family’s finances.

This Women’s Month is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness on the state of women’s health in the country.

Here are five facts that every Filipina must know about their wellness:

The country suffers from “period poverty.”

Menstrual health advocates and public health experts highlighted the urgent issue of period poverty in the Philippines. More than the inadequate access to menstrual products and hygiene facilities, period poverty is also about the lack of discourse, information, and education on the importance of menstrual health.

The stigma surrounding menstruation makes it difficult for people, especially young girls, to participate in conversations about menstruating, preventing them from learning healthy hygiene habits.

Nearly five million Filipinas struggle with PCOS.

Around 4.5 million Filipinas have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal condition affecting the ovaries, resulting in irregular, unusual or very long periods. This hormonal imbalance commonly causes acne, weight gain, and excessive hair growth. It also increases one’s risk of long-term complications, such as diabetes and ovarian cancer.

While there is no known cure for PCOS, patients can manage their symptoms and potential complications through a combination of medication and lifestyle changes, including diet, exercise and stress management.

Severe period pain is not normal, despite what many believe.

Many women do not seek medical attention despite suffering from excessively painful periods, believing the pain is a normal part of menstruation. However, severe period pain is not normal and might be a symptom of a serious health condition, such as PCOS.

One common condition that causes secondary dysmenorrhea or extremely painful period cramps is endometriosis. According to the annual census of the Philippine General Hospital, endometriosis accounts for 15% to 20% of obstetrics and gynecology consults annually and 7.9% of surgeries for benign gynecologic diseases.

Uterine fibroids are another common condition among Filipinas. Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or on the wall of the uterus. A study published by the Philippine Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology revealed 77% of women have uterine fibroids. Between 30% and 40% of these women show symptoms such as bleeding between periods, pain during intercourse, and periods that last longer than normal.

Good mental health is harder to achieve for Filipino women.

A 2023 study found that Filipino women find it more difficult to achieve good mental health than men. This is because women face “unique pressures and worries” that contribute to their poor mental health. These include gender bias in the workplace and higher demands to perform domestic duties compared to men, especially childcare.

This finding on women’s poor mental health highlights the need for women-specific comprehensive health services and plans, including counseling. To further transform mental health responsive communities, the government implemented strategies across different agencies and educational institutions.

Breast cancer is among the top leading causes of death among Filipino women.

Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that breast cancer ranks eighth in the leading causes of death among Filipino women. In 2022, the WHO reported 33,079 breast cancer cases, among the highest in Asia. Among these cases, 30.06% were perimenopausal, 23.03% were menopausal, and 19.28% premenopausal.

Several studies have demonstrated poor survival outcomes for young Filipino breast cancer patients, from ages 40 years and below. These figures underscore the need for breast cancer awareness among Filipinos of all ages, as well as learning screening practices for early detection. Getting a cancer health protection plan is also a prudent course of action for those with a history of cancer in the family.

As your partner beyond a lifetime, Sun Life Grepa supports the efforts of various agencies in addressing the concern on women’s health through its various health insurance solutions, such as Sun Grepa Cancer Care, a specialized health protection plan that helps one prepare financially should cancer strike. This product provides guaranteed cash benefits in case one is diagnosed with any of the covered early- and late-stage cancer conditions. These benefits help support medical bills, such as diagnostic procedures and treatment expenses, so one can focus on recovery.

IMG 1450EastWest volunteers share moments of joy and learning with children from Young Focus, embodying the spirit of giving and community through the Cards of Hope initiative.

Manila, Philippines – Beyond banking, EastWest is committed to going further and making a meaningful impact in the communities it serves. This came to life through Cards of Hope, a heartfelt initiative that turned a simple holiday tradition into an opportunity to change lives.

EastWest employees and internal clubs—EastWest Milers, EastWest Click, and EastWest Voices—rallied together to support Young Focus, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education. Instead of traditional holiday decorations, EastWest employees purchased intricately designed ornaments and postcard sets, knowing that every peso would go toward scholarships and essential learning resources for children from Smokey Mountain.

For EastWest, the partnership with Young Focus went beyond financial aid—it created opportunities that equip the next generation with the tools to shape their future. “Education reshapes destinies, creating pathways to a future filled with possibility,” said Martin Reyes, EastWest’s Head of Marketing. “Our support for Young Focus isn’t just about giving—it’s about equipping these children with the means to build a better life.”

A Walk of Dreams: Witnessing Resilience and Hope

EastWest volunteers joined the Walk of Dreams and visited various communities in Tondo to connect with residents and better understand their daily challenges. Experiencing the children’s struggles firsthand gave them a stronger perspective on the impact of their efforts.

Coming from the visit, it was a lot to take in,” shared one volunteer. “But what struck me most was their tenacity—their unshaken drive to learn, to dream, and to push forward despite the odds. Their determination was both humbling and inspiring.”

The experience deepened the Bank’s belief that real change happens when communities come together—not just through financial aid, but through shared moments of kindness, learning, and connection.

Turning Generosity Into Action

As EastWest celebrates its 30th anniversary, initiatives like Cards of Hope exemplify the Bank’s enduring mission to go Further For You—beyond banking, beyond business, and into the heart of communities in need.

Through this initiative, EastWest employees proved that even the simplest gestures—a card, an ornament, a shared dream—can make a lasting difference. One child, one opportunity, and one future at a time, Cards of Hope is turning generosity into action, ensuring that the next 30 years are just as impactful as the first.

Originally intended for a limited release, the documentary film performed well over the weekend—thanks to online buzz

A deafening encore.

The people have spoken! Due to insistent and persistent public demand, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is extending another week in the cinemas!

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Diane Ventura, the documentary has enjoyed a pretty strong performance over the weekend, fueled by glowing reviews and enthusiastic word-of-mouth.

Ventura expressed her deep gratitude to Eheads fans for their unwavering support.

“The positive response and support have been overwhelming and humbling,” she shared. “I’m filled with so much gratitude. I hope more people get to see the film. I hope it does for them what it did for me. This is not just a music story; it’s our story. This is for all of us.”

Originally planned for a limited release, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is a powerful exploration of how a once-disbanded group of punks came together and provided reprieve to an entire nation while, perhaps unknowingly, embarking on their own journey of healing. Featuring rare footage and never-before-seen interviews, the documentary offers a compelling look at the band’s storied history, struggles, and triumphs.

Adding to the excitement, Eraserheads themselves made a surprise appearance over the weekend, performing live during a sold-out screening at a mall in Quezon City. The legendary Pinoy rock quartet surprised an unsuspecting audience with timeless anthems from their Greatest Hits catalogue, including “Superproxy,” “Combo on the Run,” “Alapaap,” “Spoliarium,” “Pare Ko,” and “Magasin.”

Ely Buendia also visited another cinema last Sunday to thank the public for showing up to the theaters and supporting the docu film.

Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is presented by DVent Pictures and WEU, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Check with your local cinemas for ticket availability and screening schedules.

Each year, AECON addresses pressing issues in education, equipping teachers and leaders with valuable insights and solutions. This year, as part of its 75th anniversary, the focus is on creating seamless and meaningful learning experiences for every learner and educator.

In his opening remarks, REX COO Roger John Y. Fontelera highlighted that education is not a one-size-fits-all approach. He stated, “This year’s AECON isn’t about giving ready-made solutions. Instead, it’s about creating a space for reflection, learning, and collaboration. We want to provide you with stepping stones—resources, strategies, and ideas—that you can adapt to meet the specific needs of your schools, communities, and learners.”

Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera delivered a keynote address emphasizing the urgency of preparing Filipino learners for an increasingly digital world. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to developing future-ready learners by integrating technology, enhancing critical thinking, and strengthening public-private collaborations.

One key session featured a panel discussion with respected education experts and policymakers:
  • Dr. Karol Mark Yee, Executive Director o of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2)
  • Dr. Dina Joana Ocampo, Professor at the University of the Philippines and former DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching
  • Ms. Rhodora Ferrer, Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC)
  • Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, Legal Counsel of the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA)
Moderated by Dr. Edizon Fermin, Vice President for Academic Affairs at National Teachers College, the discussion focused on improving learning outcomes in the Philippines. It emphasized evidence-based policy decisions, stronger accountability among education leaders, and the importance of authentic assessments to accurately measure student progress.

In the afternoon, Dr. Amy Berry, Director of EngagED Consulting, led a plenary session on student engagement. She challenged traditional approaches and introduced innovative methods that empower both teachers and students to co-create meaningful learning experiences.

A Moment of Gratitude and the Symphony of Learning

The second day of AECON began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Most Reverend Jesse Mercado, Bishop of Parañaque, reflecting on the journey of Rex Education and its mission to support Filipino education.

After the mass, REX CEO Don Timothy Buhain introduced the Symphony of Learning Solutions, a suite of educational resources supporting lifelong learning, from early childhood to professional development. This initiative highlights REX’s commitment to integrating assessment, intervention, and enrichment for educators and learners.

Buhain compared learning to a symphony, where every effort, resource, and voice comes together to create something meaningful. He assured, “The symphony will improve—with practice, continuous learning, change, and execution. In the future, there will be additions when they are necessary. We will listen and count on our Edukampyon community, including the voice of our learners.”

The Symphony of Learning Solutions includes lesson exemplars, learning instruments, digital platforms like Schoology, and targeted assessments to ensure well-rounded education at every stage.

A Unified Pledge for Quality Education

As the congress concluded, a spirit of unity filled the hall as attendees stood for the Edukampyon Pledge. Led by Jeanne Marie Tordesillas, Chief Marketing Officer of REX, this solemn moment reaffirmed the commitment of educators and education stakeholders to advancing quality education, advocating for policies that support meaningful learning, and prioritizing the best interests of Filipino learners.

75 Years and Beyond: The Edukampyon Commitment

Reaching 75 years is a testament to Rex Education’s dedication to every learner and educator it has served. The journey continues.
In his message of gratitude, REX Chairman and President Atty. Dominador Buhain thanked all the Edukampyons and shared, “Seventy-five years, and our work is not yet done. The future demands more from us, and we accept that challenge with open hearts and minds… We vow to continue listening, learning, and innovating to provide high-quality learning solutions for every Filipino learner.”

As Rex Education looks beyond 75 years, its commitment remains—to be the trusted katuwang of every Filipino educator, school, and learner, fostering lifelong learning for generations—para sa bata, para sa mamamayan, para sa bayan, for life.
